I can't say that I have ever needed to remove a live primer from a pistol cartridge that I can remember, but have have removed hundreds of shotgun shells with a live primer and have never had one go pop. No wd40, just remove during re-size like normal.

I think I'm going to try without the WD first. Worst that happens is a loud pop which won't matter with ear protection.

I've deprimed many live primers, never had one go off. I've actually had primers go in crooked and had to dig them out with a screwdriver or pliers just to get my shell holder back, now that's a pain.

I just have always cautiously and slowly deprived it as if it were a used primer

Unless you are whacking it out w/ a hammer & punch, normal depriming on th epress is safe, just wear safety glasses & go slow. I've done it maybe more than 100 times over 35yrs.

Load it in ur gun and fire it. Then if you can't rack it to cycle it out pull the barrel and push it out.

I've used the decapping die in my single stage press to remove live primers. Never had an issue. As long as you are not smashing the primer anvil you are ok.

I'll admit that the first time I tried it I turned my face away with a silly eyes-scrunched-up expression until the primer popped out. What can I say...it worked.
