For some reason people think that Teflon makes a round armor piercing. The Teflon in the armor piercing ammo is to protect the barrel from the steel penetrator that's it's only function.

And, iirc, it wasn't even teflon--it was molybdenum.

Either way--it makes them black. And all tactical. And more dangerouser.

Yep, seems that if the name is cool they must be the best. Critical Defense, Black Talon, Hydra shok. I shouldn't include the last two, good for their time round with the gimmick CD round, but you get my point.

You forgot Exxxtreme Shock "Fangface"...or DRT (Dead Right There).

I mean, with names like that, it must be the most dangerous ammo on the planet!

Well, I guess it could be...to the person that bet their life on it.

Thanks

Thanks for your help. I will take a look at these and take your advice and put some round through my gun.

As to it being amateur night, we all gotta start somewhere

OK, first off, what Agalindo said is spot on--frangible rounds are next to useless. They tend to blow right through a wall and still be dangerous on the other side, but also tend to underpenetrate people to the point that they don't stop them fast. Mallninja wannabes tend to wet their pants over them, because they makes them watermelonz blow up real good on UToob. Against anything in the animal kingdom, however...worthless.

Second off--there is no "Best". That bears repeating, so let me say it again:

There is no "Best".

Why? Because what works best for me, in my gun, when I shoot it, may not be what works best in your gun when you shoot it...and not all guns/shooters are the same.

That being said, though...not all loads are created equal.

So: I suggest that folks with questions like this read these links:

Best Choices for Self Defense Ammo

Thoughts on Service Pistols, along with Duty and Self-Defense Ammo Recommendations - M4Carbine.net Forums

They list several loads that all have proven themselves to be excellent choices...and also explains the why as to them being excellent choices.

So, choose one of the loads listed (you may find that some are considerably more expensive and/or harder to find than others--but they all will perform more or less the same). Buy a box or two, and take it to the range. Load up your mags, and let fly. Fire at least one entire magazine out of every magazine you plan on using for defense. See if the load runs 100% reliably in your pistol in your hands, and see if you think it has acceptible control when rapid firing. If your pistol likes it, and you like it...why try something else? You've got something that you know works for you, instead of what some anonymous yahoo tells you in an internet forum. If it doesn't work..then start all over again.

I hope this actually helps you, instead of sombody just posting some bullet name that may or may not work in your gun.

ETA--Hornady Critcal Defects is one of those rounds that blowz up watermelonz real good on UToob. Avoid it.

“Laws that forbid the carrying of arms...disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes... Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants; they serve rather to encourage than to prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed man.” (Quoting Cesare Beccaria)

The beauty of the Second Amendment is that it will not be needed until they try to take it.

Sorry--that wasn't aimed at you--it was more towards the really bad advice you were being given by other posters.

You were asking a legitimate question...one that's been asked, well, a lot. If you search this subforum, you'll likely find hundreds of posts asking pretty much the same question.

Some AP was Teflon-coated.. It WAS, in fact to protect the bore from the harder-than-regular-jacket material of the AP rounds, specifically, KTW rounds.

I'm currently loaded up with 127 gr. +p+ Ranger Ts.
