It's called capitalism?? OF course they are going to use a cheesy marketing trick like slick packaging & zombie green tip to sell you soemthing, why wouldn't they? Ok, if it makes you feel better; the core is really ground meteor dust & the tip is an anti viral compund that kills the zombie virus on contact. The jacket looks like copper but that is an optical illusion used to confuse other zombies.

I was actually pretty bummed they did not have nickel casings....would have kept the whole SHTF theme they were going for...
In any event, I bought some because hell....ammo prices are always on the rise, so I see that always being a plus. But the main reason is because I remember those old comic books and lunch boxes that people used to collect. Have you googled some of their costs now?! So while Zmax may never hold that level of desire, and it value gained might be after I am gone, I still enjoy their effort and humor.
I think the value will be in the box (I.E. its condition).

Z-max was actually cheaper than critical defense when I bought it. I made a video on it...though scientific method went out the window while I was making it.
Other than the tip color, brass cases as opposed to nickel in the critical defense rounds are the only difference I see.

ETA--I'm kinda wondering if they think their "Critical Duty" line is going to eclipse CDefense and the Z-max is just their way of getting rid of the underperforming line (assuming, of course, that CDuty lives up to their hype...).

Granted, don't have anything to compare this to, but I have personally seen a .40 CD round go through 2 sheetrock walls and completely through a truck door, breaking off the inner door handle of the truck. From muzzle to the truck is about 50'-75'. It was an accidental discharge and thnk the good Lord above that no one was injured.
After I posted this thread, I sent Hornady pretty much the same question I posted here...guess what, no answer...lol. But thier marketing is working, we are talking about it, right?

Well drywall doesn't stop bullets & sheet metal penetration has little to do with perfromance in flesh, so try not drawing conclusions from anectdotal events. The Horandy line suffers from inadequate penetration. Just looking at their own gel test show you that you could be in trouble up against a large attacker & not getting perfect hits. Horhany XTP line is a better bet IMO. They have always performed well, the original FBI approved bullet.

I finally got a reply frm Hornady. This is what they said is the difference. Same thing that is said on here already.
Ryan, the Zmax ammunition in handguns is similar to our Critical Defense ammunition. The biggest differences are the color of the tip and the Critical Defense ammunition uses a nickel-plated casing. The rifle ammunition consists of a Vmax(223), Amax(308) or SST(7.62x39) bullet with a different colored tip. Thanks!
