.380 vs 9mm

Can some please elaborate for me why .380 ammo cost so much more the 9mm, I was in walmart picking a few boxes of 9mm and .380 for plinking, I usually always get the federal champion, for some reason I looked at the prices today and could not believe the .380 was almost 4$ more per box of 50. Is there more of a process in making .380 vs 9mm. Just curious, as I said I've bought it before but never looked at the price comparison, not cause I got money but because I needed the ammo and I know it the cheapest around, at least here in PA it is.

Thanks

It's a niche round and just not as much of it available, there's much more 9mm availability...

Is that the reason... I understand that's the answer when it comes to my .357 sig, ammo is scarce and the whole crimping process justifies the cost.

9mm is where the volume is. The material cost for .380 is certainly going to be less, but that is only part of the story.

Demand. There's not a lot for 380 there is for 9mm so most companies gear up to make much more 9mm than 380.

9mm has the economies of scale as the most popular pistol round on the planet. .380 not so much

Apples cost more than oranges ... But it's geographically dependent

Supply and demand.
