Does ammo get old?

If I bought a box of WWB, how long can I keep it around and still safely shoot it? Is it a matter of a few months? Years? 10 years?

I've shot ammo that is over 10 years old. As long as you keep it dry, it should last indefinitely. A bag of dessicant in your safe or ammo box is cheap insurance.

50 or 100 years probably, if you don't store it in 130 degree temps

Still shoots good.

I've still got some ammo I bought or reloaded before I got married. That was 18 years ago. It still works fine. It's been stored in a cool dry place.

I would venture a guess that if you kept that WWB stored in an air conditioned home it will last a lot longer than you will.

30 Year old Ammo Works Fine

I have several boxes of shotshells purchased in the 1970's for Duck Hunting. They have been kept in a cool dry place. Fired some just a few months ago. All fired 100%, and worked as good as a box of new shotshells.

Have heard of ammo fired recently that was manufactured from around WWI. (I think it was in a Shotgun News Article about a "semiauto" conversion to a WWI bolt gun.) All the ammo fired fine. So that ammo would have to be over 80 years old.

The key is to keep it in a cool, dry place, and it will last almost indefinitely.

PLEASE, PLEASE quit spreading these lies that ammos last a long time!!!!

Ammo is only good to store for about a "few months". They can "Blow up" or not work when not used promptly!!!

...I've convince my wife of this, and I don't need anyone spoiling it.!!!
