XD45 slide action on reloaded rounds
I have only been reloading about a month and I reloaded some 230gr. RNFP from precision bullets this morning. I loaded to a 1.270" OAL with
3.5gr. of Bullseye. I wanted to try a lighter charge but everytime I shot, the slide would not go into battery (firing position) without tapping on the back of the slide. Would the lighter charge cause the slide to not function?

I don't understand what you are saying....what do you mean "without tapping on the back of it." If the load is too light, then the slide won't cycle, creating a jam. By the way, 3.5gr of BE at that aol probably wont cycle the slide even if you put a lighter spring in.

Bullseye with a 230 grain RN bullet should be loaded 5.2 to 5.7 of powder in my reload book.

With that OAL you are probably driving the bullet into the rifling but the load is so light that the pressure it creates is what is causing it to activate the slide. Reduce OAL to 1.240 as 1.250 is the accepted OAL for a full profile 230gr RN.
