Load data for 200 grain Rainier bullets and SWC?
I recently ordered 500 Rainier 200 Grain round-nose bullets to reload some cartridges for my XD45. What kind of recipes are you guys using for 200 grain plated bullets like the Rainier? I was also interested trying out some plated SWC bullets, but I'm not to sure if they will feed properly in the XD45. What kind of luck has everybody had with the SWC bullets in the XD? Thanks in advance for any advice.

I'm still working on the SWC loads so it will be interesting to hear from others on this topic.

I guess I may just have to buy some SWC bullets and try it out since nobody is really saying anything about it... :P

I'm using 5.3 gr of 700X with a West Coast 200gr plated RN. Makes major in my 5" 1911 but I haven't chronoed it yet in the XD.

I tried lead swc several brands and weights. I couldn't get them to feed.

I have not had any good luck with Ranier or Berry SWC. Seems as though the plating causes the bullet to 'stick' going up the feed ramp but this was in a 1911 with a polished feed ramp. Laser Cast lead SWC works fine with 4.7 gr of TiteGroup or WST in a 5" 1911.
The local gun shop hasn't ordered any XD's yet, they are waiting until enough people want to special order & pay list price plus.

I loaded some 200 grain round nose rainiers over the weekend and they performed well. I used 5.2 grains of Accurate #2 and CCI Primers with an OAL of 1.260" and I didn't have any jams in my XD. Accuracy was also much better than any factory ammo I have tried

Used my 500 rounds of Rainier 200 gr. RN last month. Not Bad ! Rainier gave me start load of 5.6/ stop 6.3 with Win 231 COL 1.260". Ended up with 6.2 Win231 COL 1.265 . Taper crimp .469. Velocity alittle under 800 fps. Low recoil, shoots good in the XD. * Might have to bell your case alittle more than normal with the expander so you don't get any of that plated copper build up on the case mouth. Could lead to some jamming. Make sure you taper crimp after. Used Win. brass and Rem. 2 1/2 large pistol primmers.
Hope that helps.[/b] |

Thanks for the data! I did taper crimp all of the rounds and so far the XD is loving it.

Here are a few loads you can try with a 200 gr LSWC bullet loaded to an overall cartridge length of 1.275 inches and a standard primer. All of these loads should produce 21,000 psi or less pressure and are within SAAMI specs. These loads are in order of actual powder burn rates (not necessarily in order of advertised burn rates).
Please note that these are MAXIMUM loads and you should start out 10% less than these loads and work up carefully. I hope this helps.
