I have heard a couple guys tell me that they have "stages" of rounds in their shotguns. First it would be like birdshot, then buckshot, then a slug.
I would never carry my XD in a configuration like that but I though it would be fun to try it at the range.

I loaded a magazine with a:

CCI Shotshell with #9 shot
Winchester 230gr. FMJ
Remington 185gr. Golden Sabre JHP
Winchester 230gr. Black Talon JHP
Winchester 230gr. SXT JHP

The first round (shotshell) fed perfectly and I hit the target in the face at 15 yards. the next 4 had about a 5.5" group center mass with a slightly rapid fire. I tried it mostly to see how the new XD would feed different rounds. They all fed and worked just like they were supposed to.

Any good gun should be able be feed any combination of ammo, I know people that carry alternating rounds of JHP and FMJ so they have the best of both worlds, good stopping power and a round that can go through heavy clothing easily. I've tried that just for fun in all my guns and had no problem.

I believe they just stopped making the black talons for PR reasons. they have started producing them as Ranger (LE) now.

It was all marketing hype anyway and they changed the name. If you want to make your money back sell them on EBay as evil black bullets.
