WWB for home defense?
Anyone use WWB, CCI Blazer, or any other kind of "practice ammo" for home defense, or carry for that matter? I ask because I see lots of people saying you should shoot at least 300-500 rounds of an ammo that you plan on defending yourself with. I really dont have that kind of money to be spending on that considering I'm a poor college student. However, I have shot enough of the WWB to feel confident that it would serve me well if the need arises.

That's a lot of money, I agree. I would recommend shooting a box of the defense ammo and buying another for carry/home defense. I am in the same boat, and if you have a high quality firearm, one box should be enough. One box should be enough to discern if you need to switch ammo. If you plan on using Winchester ammo, buy the personal defense white box at least. It comes with a hollow point bullet and is loaded a little hotter than the normal range crap. My buddy and I shot a box of 9mm through his Sig, and it seems that it would work fine as far as accuracy is concerned. Another thing about defense ammo is that, if you buy quality defense ammo, it should be great. What kind of gun are you shooting?

Why would it matter if you practice with WWB and use something like Federal's EFMJ hollow point for home defense?

It is my understanding that the wwb jhp personal protection ammo is the same as there silver tips but minus the silver coating on the bullet. I tried them in my xdsc and they worked pretty good. If they work well in my cz Ill be carrying that load as they are cost efective. Like you said $$$$ is a factor for me to. I e-mailed winchester to see if they will make this load with a 124 gr bullet as I like that weight of projectile. When I hear back from them Ill post it here. With ammo cost on the rise we have to get the most bang for the buck. Have a good one.

I can state for a fact that the WWB 147gr JHPs are quite a bit hotter than their normal WWB.
Defensive ammo's first priority is that it functions each and every time. If WWB is all you can afford and your gun runs fine on it.....I wouldn't want to get shot at by WWB or some expensive Hornady TAP or anything else.

Yeah...you don't wanna get shot with a .22 either, but there is a line to draw in the sand. You should shoot the best you CAN. If you can't afford the really expensive stuff, practice shot placement. The Remington Golden Saber ammo is good stuff, and you get 25 in a box. That's better than the 20 that most offer. I've shot it out of all my guns with good results. Currently, I have those in my XD Service, but I carry Gold Dot in my Taurus Protector.

Hornady tap-fpd and golden sabres are the only ones I know of that offer 25 to a box. And those also work well out of my guns. Especially the standard pressure golden sabes.
