WW USA 230 JHP is what I carry daily. It is plenty accurate-
![]() Four of those went inside an inch, and I bet the 'flyer' wasn't because of the ammo. It also expands regularly in water-filled jugs, and penetrates as deep as antyhing else I have tried including HydraShoks. I actually prefer this stuff to the old 185 Silvertips becuase it it'll penetrate deeper, and the 1911 just seems to work best with 230 grain loads. I'm right at 200 rounds of this stuff through my rebuilt Auto Ordnance GI, without a malf of any kind.

in my opinion practice ammo and PD ammo are two different things and should be looked at differently. You dont need to shoot hundreds of PD ammo before you know it works. Buy a couple boxes of good PD and try them in your gun to see that they feed well every time. If you can...shoot at some sort of medium other than paper. Water jugs are good, wet phone books, Packs of modeling clay, etc...
Then buy yourself just a few boxes to keep around. Think about it, unless you are planning for a large scale attack in which you better have a good carbine to go with that handgun, how many rounds are you expecting to have to fire in any given situation. You are not going to carry a few hundred rounds of PD ammo on you, you need a good two clips worth on you and thats all. |

In the last 10-20 years bullet designs have made a huge progression.
I wouldn't use WWB FMJ ammo for self defense, not because it's inexpensive but because it is FMJ. JHP is much better choice. The WWB JHP designs are pretty decent performers. No you don't get quite as much expansion as the premium stuff. But it is much better than FMJ ammo. And much better than regular JHP's of a few years ago. I shoot off my carry ammo occasionally at the range and when I don't have any to replace it I use WWB JHP's (.45 ACP in a Glock 36). I guess I'd call WWB JHP's my secondary carry ammo. I think having a reliable JHP is more important than results of gelatain tests. If WWB it all you can afford to shoot in your gun, then as long as it function reliably you should be fine as long as you place your shots well. All to often us shooters seem to focus on the hardware ( bullet peformance type of gun, holster, ect..) instead of the software (what's in your brain from your training). Your performance, your shot placement, will be more important than how much your JHP opens up.

i've tested expansion on WWB jhp 9mm and I would trust it for self defense. FMJ in 9mm can so easily pass through soft tissue 'cleanly', and not stop your attacker. JHP, and don't stop after 1 round. |
