.223 brass by the Lb. how much ??

I've got a chance to buyy some brass by the pound by cant find a going rate by wgt. just by round? what's a good price for a pound of once used .223 brass ? I plan on starting reloading and if I have a few pounds laying around that might get me going. Thanks for any help in advance.

Well, lessee.

Empty .223 brass weighs in the mid 90s in grains of weight. Call it 95 to make it easy.

7000 grains in a pound, divided by 95 is...about 73 cases per pound.

1000 once-fired mixed-headstamp goes from $60 to $130 online, more or less. Call it a dime apiece?

So a pound would go for...$7.30?

I'd pay less. Try for $4 or $5 a pound.

You can do the math from there.

I got 1200 for $10 a while back but some of it was military and told him how much more work it was going to be to prep it.

Some Like Military Brass Vs Commerical

While it is more work to SWAG out the military crimp after popping out the primer, you only have to do it once. Military brass usually is heavier then commercial brass and with good annealing/trimming about every 5 reloads, should outlast commercial brass also.

About the only other thing is....could the brass you want to buy be berdan primered and not boxer? Dunno. Has there been any berdan 5.56 ammo/brass imported? Dunno again. I know its an ongoing problem with 7.62x51 military. Berdan primers are very hard to get. HB of CJ (old coot)
