CCI Large Rifle Benchrest Primers
Anyone have any experience with these primers? I'm a huge fan of Federal Gold Medal Match but haven't found any in 2 years, I'm hoping these are just as good, I've had good results with regular CCI large rifle magnum primers but it seems that match grade primers tighten up my groups even more. Let me know what you think guys.

ive used the small rifle benchrest and compared to the regular small rifle they provided a more consistent FPS which in turn usually gives you better groups

That's what I've experienced with match primers too, not a huge difference but they can take an accurate load and turn it into a load that shoots through the same hole.

I like the CCIBR2, use them in several cartridges. Primers can make a big diff in accuracy or they can mean nothing. Your individual rifle/bullet/powder combo will tell you.

You don't become a better shooter unless you can shoot more & you don't shoot more unlesss you can do it for less. To view links or images in signatures your post count must be 5 or greater. You currently have 0 post(s).

I don't know if this applies to the CCI large BR primers, but the CCI small rifle BR primers are one of the lowest powered small rifle primers.
I had developed a load for my Production class silhouette pistol, chambered for the 7MM BR cartridge. This load used AA2520, along with the CCI BR4 primer. During the summer, when I worked up this load, it shot very well. I happened to try this same load during the winter, with temperatures in the 20's. I got several hang fires, and one complete misfire. I disassembled the round that misfired, and found that the primer had ignited. The only other evidence that the primer had fired was a small clump of fused powder granules about the size of a BB.
I switched to standard small rifle primers, and this low temperature problem disappeared with this load. AA2520, being a ball powder, is more difficult to ignite than other types of powders.
This is just something to consider.

Thanks, for ball powders and below zero temps I use mag primers for reliability.

I have a stack of CCI BR2 primers I use for all the rifle reloading I do. I, too, have experienced the lack of Federal Gold Match primers. I was impressed with one particular load using the CCI BR2 primers. It was for my neighbor's 30-06 using 190gr SMK, over 56.4gr of AA4350. The average speed was 2541 with an extreme spread of 14fps. The resulting 5-shot group at 100 yards was .432" C-T-C.
So far they are the most plentiful primer I can find locally.

Yeah, match primers really seem to dial in my 300 SAUM loads which is an accurate cartridge anyway, but match primers give me even tighter groups most of the time, that's why I like using them when I can.
