I just got a box from Roze distribution full of 40 s&w 165gr jhp happiness (well, it makes ME happy anyway!). Last week I got a spam can (1260 rounds) of mil surp happiness in 6.72x25 tok. I plan on buying a spam can of tok a month for a while. That gun is just a blast to shoot (no pun intended!). And the tok rounds are 86 gr & 1400fps are decent in the power making ability, plus they can punch holes in zombies 4-5 deep. Oh, the tok ammo is under 10 cents a round for the surplus stuff. Down just under 9 cents is the best I've seen. Can't reload it for that price!
But this isn't a "stash", it's just what I want on hand for target practice and to train the boy. I figure that once he gets confidence in himself and the use of firearms, he will blow thru a snit pot full of ammo pretty quick. Lord knows I did at his age!

After about the 3rd gun I bought, plus having 2k-3k rounds on hand, I told my wife if there's ever an incident at the house the local papers would only be too happy to report my "stockpile". Anything more than one gun and a few boxes of ammo and you're automatically labeled a nut/threat. |

Surplus ammo cans are one of the best value purchases you can buy. If you had to buy them new at cost, they would cost significantly more. They're all steel construction. The handles will easily hold the 70 - 80 pounds of 3000 rounds. They stack up extremely well also.
Most of my stock and supplies live in ammo cans for quick movement and protection. I probably have 40 cans of various sizes. All of them are painted tan with krylon ultra flat paint. You could hit them with the roll on bedliner if you want them really tough. Just avoid the hinges and where the lid seats over the base. The latch engagement also. They are extremely weather resistant too. Many guys use them to hide geocaches in. They're in extremely bad environments, and I've found ones that are over 7 years in the field that only have light surface rust. This will vary on the region. The contents are usually dry. |
