PDX1 vs. Gold Dot vs. Ranger T's

I am looking for the best self defense round for my .45 ACP, .40 S&W, 9mm, and .380. I have always went with Speer Gold Dots but am thinking a changing to a Winchester Supreme Elite Bonded PDX1 or the Ranger T's. Any input?

I use Speer Gold Dot, they have always worked flawlessly for me so I figured why change if it works and it's available then use it. The only exception to that is, if I have enough money and they are available I really like the CorBon DPX ammo. We could go crazy and blow lots of money trying to figure which is the best, so since the Speer Gold Dot always work, I will stick with them for my XD40SC and my XD45C. My wife's Bersa .380 has had zero problems with Remington Golden Saber, CorBon DPX or Speer Gold Dot.I can't give my opinion for 9MM because I don't have one but it seems most folks like the Speer Gold Dot ammo among others.

All the choices you've listed will work just fine the differences between them are minute try them all and chose that one that works consistently with no malfunctions and shoots the most accurate in you weapon.

I'm a fan of the Speer GDHP no matter what the caliber, But lately I have been testing out the PDX-1, I haven't tried them in my 92FS yet but I have had some feed issues with my XD40SC and the PDX-1. I am going to the range this week to test some more. I have never used the HST cause I can't find any but they seem to expand like mad, real wide I have used Hydroshock and I like them but they are old tech but they are reliable. I'm not a big fan of Corbon only because they are very light weight bullet and I would rather have a heavier round .40=180gr, 9mm=147gr, .38=158/135 GDHP

There is no "best".*

Any one of the three you have listed will do just fine if you can do your part when the chips are down.

Anything more is, to borrow a phrase from another forum about this same subject, angels dancing on pinheads.

* ETA: There is no best, assuming that all three function reliably in your pistol, and are reasonably accurate out of your pistol in your hands. However you are the only person that can figure this out...

I carried Gold Dots for years and still have some. I picked up some Federal HST before prices went crazy. I think any of those listed will do there job - it you do your job with shot placement. There is no magic bullet - shot placement is the king ..

I use Federal Tactical bonded and Winchester pdx1. I can't find the HST consistently so I don't buy them. I have also tried Hornady TAP and they have too much kick for me. This is in the xdm .40. For my xdm 9mm, I use Hornady Critical Defense. Once the pdx1 comes out for 9mm, I will switch to that most likely.
