.40 +p Where could I get some?

I've been looking for 40 caliber 180 grn +p ammo or even 200grn +p. Has anybody come across these? If somebody could point me in the right direction that'd be spiffy.

I might be open to buying reloads from somebody on the forums that has a good rep with the reloads too.

I've gone through about 2,000 rounds of ammo from this company. They're a fixture at my local gun shows, so I don't pay for shipping.

Correct me if I'm wrong...

There is NO OFFICIAL +P SAAMI RATING FOR .40S&W!!!

There's no way of telling if your gun can safely handle it, and since there's no real spec, you're jeopardizing your gun and yourself.

+P is therefore just market-speak for "Over any sane pressure".

But over any sane pressure could be good. In what way could this harm my gun? Aren't there people on this forum that use .357 +p ammo without issues in their XD? And this is a higher velocity than the .40....

Even so, I thought the XD was rated for +p but not +p+.

You are correct. Any 40 S&W ammo marked +P is marketing hype. It's probably not really +P, and if it is, it may be dangerous to use--meaning one's gun may KaBoom. If one feels one needs more bullet or more speed, get a BIGGER cartridge! I've had two pistols KaBoom in my hands, I guarantee, it ain't fun! (Fortunately, no permanent damage, at least to me.)

.357 sig ammo uses thicker brass do to the highter pressures. I it is also pushing 125 grain bullets, not 200 grain bullets. If you overload a .40 then you are asking for a kaboom in your gun that may severely damage the gun and yourself.
Oh by the way, there IS NO .357 +P ammo. If someone marks it that way, its a hyp. +P ammo comes in .38 special, 9mm, .45ACP

Designating a .40 S&W cartridge as +P could be a parallel to designating a 9mm cartridge as +P+ - effectively meaning that pressure is potentially higher than the published SAAMI spec. To add to the confusion (per se), I do not believe that the differences between SAAMI standards and CIP standards for pressure have been resolved, yielding the potential that a cartridge manufactured to top end of the CIP standards could result in pressure higher than the SAAMI spec. Whether that would rightly result in a +P designation for such ammo sold in the United States is not clear. It is also not clear whether or not use of such ammo is "safe" in a specific gun.

More pressure than the brass and the chamber can take, and the barrel explodes, the gases get vented into the wrong place, the grip explodes, mag blows out the bottom, and your hands, face, and eyes get royally ****ed up.

I assume you mean the .357sig. Again, that's the same +P story. Just because one person thinks it's a good idea (bashing police officers at every turn, trying to stir up ****, etc) doesn't make it a good idea, or a safe one.

There is a ton more to ammo than just the velocity of something. Research "SAAMI pressure". http://www.handloads.com/misc/saami.htm Different chambers are designed to handle different pressures.

It is rated for +P in 9mm, because as you can see in that chart I linked to, there is a standard for +P, and the XD has been tested for it. There is NO standard for +P .40, and as such, you don't know what you're buying OR if the XD can handle it.

Stay away. It's not worth the tiny extra bit of power. If you want more power, get the .357sig or the .45.

Heres what the wrong pressures can do inside a chamber.

No these pictures are not of my gun.

Ouch, thanks guys. But do you think that one day there will be +p for the 40 caliber? I mean...it is a relatively new cartriage after all....Or is there some reason it can't be made in +p?
