This thinking does not seem to follow logic or common sense. Which, I understand might actaully seem to MAKE sense as a tactic when dealing with some of the buerocracy I've seen in action. Not trying to hijack the thread or start a debate.
S0.... back on track. I use the Gold Dots when I carry, LOL

Its not the legality but rather the brush the prosecutor or the plaintiffs attorney can paint your character with. Than can make you look like someone who was just itching to kill someone and use your use of super powerful reloads to make that point. Regardless of rather your reloads were any different than factory ammo at all. All they have to do is convince people too stupid to get off jury duty.

from wiki:
Handloaded ammunition is not recommended for defensive use. Experts point to potential legal liabilities that the shooter incurs if using handloaded ammunition for defense, such as an implied malice on the part of the shooter, as the use of handloaded ammunition may give the impression that "regular bullets weren't deadly enough". [23] Additionally, forensic reconstruction of a shooting relies on using identical ammunition from the manufacturer, where handloaded ammunition cannot be guaranteed identical to the ammunition used in the shooting, since "the defendant literally manufactured the evidence". [23]
It makes sense to me. I only use premium factory JHP's for defense. Others may choose not to, and that's their call...but I've yet to hear an overwhelmingly good reason for using handloads for carry/defense.

That makes a LOT more sense, thanks for the clarification. Doesn't answer the question at hand, though... looks like I need to pick up some scrap drywall from work and make it happen

I even test revolver ammo! Anything short of that is just foolish. A min. of one full carry mag each & at least two cyl. full on a rev. Rotate carry ammo out every 6mos, HD every year. So a box of 50 will get you by for awhile.

Yeah, test everything!!!!
For what it's worth, I like the Ranger T, the HST and the gold dot in that order but, others may have different opinions. They're all very affective.
I keep my 45acp loaded with Ranger T +P 230gr. ( RA45TP )
