Is 9mm +P and .40S&W +P OK to shoot from XDm or XD SC?

I've been lurking here for a while and have read that many members are using +P ammunition with their XD and XDm pistols for personal defense.

However, I was at Cabela's yesterday and while talking ammo with the clerk at the gun counter, he said that Springfield would void your warranty if you shoot +P ammo from any of their guns. I realize that gun store clerks are not necessarily the "sharpest tack" in the box and often say things just to make themselves look "important". Although I have not shot any +P from any of my semi-autos, I have been thinking about getting some to try.

I know that Kel-Tec says that you can shoot 9mm+P from their P11 and PF9, but not as a steady diet. Even Colt's owner's manual will tell you that .38 Spl +P is OK in several of their alloy frame revolvers as long as you don't shoot it all the time and inspect the gun on a regular basis, but I cannot find anything from Springfield about this.

I've always been of the opinion that the SA XD's and XDm's will eat just about any new factory ammo you feed them without a problem and I've never had any problems whatsoever from any XD or XDm I have ever shot, but I have not shot any +P through them.

I tried to find out if this clerk is full of cr*p or not, so I have searched the Springfield website but cannot find anything about +P ammunition. I cannot find anything in the owner's manual either and every attempt to search 9mm+P or .40+P on this site yields the message,
"Sorry - no matches. Please try some different terms."
I can't even get a hit when I search here for "9mm" or "9 mm" or any other caliber for that matter.

I do want to make sure that whatever ammo I use, is safe in my guns. So my question is, is it safe to shoot 9mm+P or .40 +P through a Springfield XD, XD SC or XDm? Can someone provide a link to Springfield's position about this?

Thanks for your assistance.

He is wrong.

This is from Tom at S.A from March 2006:

Due to the fact that our entire line of
XD pistols features fully ramped and supported barrels,
using +P and +P+ ammo will not damage your gun.
However, we do recommend that you make sure the ammo is
American made and is in new condition, not re-loads.
If you are planning to use +P or +P+ ammo, we recommend
that you fire it extensively at the range before relying
on it for concealed carry or self defense. Although +P or
+P+ ammo will not damage your XD, a steady diet of this
higher power ammo may decrease the service life of the
barrel & firearm.

Thanks, Tom

You are correct. There is no +P or +P+ rated ammo for .40S&W.

I suggest that you can also email Springfield Armory with questions like these. They happily answer them.
