Reloads for an XD-40
Been thinking about an XD-40. Anything that I get I will want to reload as it's kinda fun. I was looking thru a Lee reloading book and it talked about not reloads in some model glocks because due to design part of the shell is unsupported. Nothing is said about the XD-40, can reloads be used in an XD-40? Anybody have a recommended load that works well??

XD's are fine. Do a search on this forum. Chamber is fully supported. I use 3.5 gr Clays and 165 gr Rainier HP. Nice soft load. Most will recommend you stay away from Clays with the 40 but it works fine for me.

The problem with Glocks and reloads is the unsupported chamber will not tolerate higher pressures that some people feel they need to push a bullt to or weak brass from multiple loads. The other thing is they have a polygonal rifling and you can not shoot naked lead in these barrels. It leads to leading in the barrel and then that builds pressure and BOOM. XD's are fully rifles and XD's are fully supported and safe to shoot lead in.
Universal clays 5.2 grains 180 grain bullet seated to 1.135 @ 920fps VV320 4.7 grains 180 grain bullet seated to 1.145 @ 920fps VV320 3.7 grains 180 grain bullet seated to 1.135 @750 fps Reduce all loads by 10% and work up slowly.

JD McMorce, Have you chronographed that load? I am also using N340 and if you have chronographed the load it might save my some time.
Thanks mcb |

Reloads are safe if you produce them using common sense. I've been reloading for 13 years and the only time I had a bad load was this past summer, I had a squib. It the bullet left the barrel but you could see it in flight. I know how it happened and I took precautions to ensure it doesnt happen again.
