speer gold dots harsh?
I picked up a box of speed gold dots, I believe they were 165 gr. I have been shooting rem umc walmart value box, and winchester walmart target/range 165. I found the recoil from the speers to be very offensive. I had just shot my friends .357 mag for the first time, and it recoils like a SOB! lol So I was shocked when I loaded up with the speers and it turned my gun into the same big recoil that .357 had. Anyone else had this experience?

no, actually...
I used to carry Gold Dot 165, before I switched to 180, and was surprised that I perceived them to exhibit nearly the exact same felt recoil of my WWB practice ammo which is 165 gr. That's just my opinion, though, maybe someone else will chime in. -stunks |

To answer your question, yes...........but it was years
ago. Sounds like you are recoil sensitive and probably a good candidate for 9mm only at this time. Perhaps you need to 'work up to' the higher, more powerful loads. Good shooting and don't give up. Ed |

I carry 165 gr Gold Dots, and haven't found them to be harsh myself. Everyone is different. Find something you can appreciate, and go with it.

I actually found that the Speer's feel a little more controlled to me than the standard WWB, Magtech range ammo. I shoot 180 grain Speer Gold Dot, and 180 grain WWB or Magtech depending on what is avaliable at the time. Again it is always one's own percieved reality of how it feels. Everyone is different.

Actually I have shot 9mm for a while now, and the normal recoil of the .40 isn't much to me. Every other ammo I've shot through it has felt quite comfortable as far as recoil. I wonder if it's possible these ones had a little too much powder in them? Even my friend standing behind me said the noise from these rounds was way louder. I think, but can't say for sure that these bullets have been at the store for a while. They were on sale, so I figured I would give them a try.

I carry 180 Gold Dots...They do jump a bit more than lawman or other similar range ammo in 180 gr. But they are very controllable. I can get two controlled shot 'A'Zonehits at 10 yards in 1.2s with the gold dot, it is maybe 100 fps faster than my competition ammo. Try 155 gr. Remington for a truly delightful recoil experience.. whoa.

shot federal hyda shok tonight, each different grain there is in that one. Shot winchester .40 180 gr. jhp, winchester supreme 18 gr. sxt personal protection. I did look at the speer's I purchased and they had an HP on the box. Could that stand for high power? I'm not recoil sensitive, if I were I can tell ya that my friends .357 mag would have really bothered me. It was powerful, but I was fine with it. When I say the speer's were offensive, I don't mean so much that I couldn't stand it. Just saying compared to any other round, including any other defense round they were a lot louder and had a lot more punch. Just my thoughts. All of the rounds I shot tonight shot very nicely.

Hollow point Generally speaking, the lighter the bullet, the more recoil you may experience. More room for more powder, higher velocity, etc. I bought a case of the 155gr GDHP from ammoman once. Shooting that, and WWB back-to-back, the difference was noticeable. |
