New height to ammo madness!

I was just at the Nation's Gun show and it was nuts! I went in just as they opened the doors and like everyone I headed to the ammo booth. Well I only wanted 100 rounds of .38 for the revolver I was buying but there were at least 2 dozen people with wagons and dolleys! The first guy in line in told the booth he wanted all there 9mm. They rang up about 25,000 rounds and he carted it off! I saw at least 5 people buy over $1,500 in ammo in cash just in the amount of time I was in line.

After the show I went to the shooting range and told them about what I saw. They said they went there before the show opened but the ammo sellers wouldn't take a corporate check. Their solution was to go to Walmart and clean them out of about 4,000 rounds of various ammo! No wonder there isn't any when I go!

I'm seriously put off by this whole thing right now, I may stop shooting for a while. The crowd in line for ammo at the gun show was seething when the guy bought all the case, they started grabbing what ever loose boxes were near them, I'm afraid there is going to be an incident at one of the shows if things don't let up.

Point well taken!

We're having a local gun show in Allentown this weekend... always nice to be cautious of your surroundings!

Wow that is just sad. I mean honestly $1,500 in ammo. Not trying to tell people how to spend their money, but holy **** man. That is just straight up paranoia period.

I got tired of all the ammo price increases every Jan and Jul for the last 3-4yrs so I started buying a box here, and a box there, 3yrs ago! My thoughts were that it wasn't going to be like gasoline prices, and all the prices would go back down. They didn't go down, even when commodity prices went back down. Then BO came along and prices/availability went nuts

I haven't bought any ammo since last summer, although I haven't seen much locally in the last 6months anyway. Haven't been to the range either. It used to be a nice hobby, just shooting for the pleasure of it and trying to improve my skills. Introducing friends and even my wife into the sports shooting world. Now I'm just waiting for the ammo supply to loosen up before I go back to the range on a regular basis. If I can't replace the ammo that I have, I'll only shoot to keep my defensive skills from getting too rusty, so maybe only 2-3 range trips this year!!!!!!!!

I'm just thankful that I had the good sense to pick up 2500 rounds of 9mm about a year ago when Dick's had their ridiculous deal on Remington UMC; 50 rounds for $8. When I purchased there really hadn't been a run on ammo yet and it was still readily available (thus it didn't occur to me to buy even more). Now, as others constantly complain about, it is gone. I am about halfway through my supply and thus started checking the local Walmarts and Dick's occasionally. Employees at both locations claim that it hits the shelves and is gone within an hour (if it even makes it to the shelves). Having a real job I obviously cannot be stalking local stores 24/7. I feel bad for those that don't have some ammo to fall back on; I can see why you basically cannot shoot at all right now. Although I guess it would be a good time to invest in a 22 pistol!

Anyway, I prefer to shoot 9mm. If the supply/demand continues much longer as is I will be investing in reloading equipment. Other than small pistol primers the remainder of the necessary components seem to be available.

Most of these people who are buying carts full like this scenario are putting this ammo for sale on places like Gun Broker or are retailers selling it out of their stores.

What we all need to do is refuse to buy any ammo from these people. Buy from local guys who aren't gouging and wait for Wal-Mart deliveries.

Let these ass hats get caught with a ton of ammo they paid a lot for and then have to sell it cheaper at a loss when the ammo does come back to some stability.

Right now, many people will pay any price for whatever they can get. That is stupid and makes the prices stay high. Let stop doing that and force the hoarders to buy high and then sell low.

I have a problem with the people that buy tons of ammo then burry it in the ground! Even worse are the people that buy loads of ammo who don't even have a gun and then store it.

There was a sign at the booth I was at that said "No Dealers" but if they paid with a personal credit card how could they tell?

The prices were good, not great. I bought Federal .38 Special FMJ for $16 for a box of 50, 9mm, 124 grain was $14 a box, better deals on cases of course.
