A buddy of mine was at the range with his 9mm. I was standing back while he was practicing his holster draw and shot. Started snatching up the brass while he shot and noticed this one fly out of his gun.

Factory American Eagle 9mm. Has any of you seen something like this out of factory rounds. Guess its just a random bad case.

I've seen a good amount of cases like that..but after a number of reloads. Never seen one split like that from a factory load.

Is this the only case that did that? Make sure no others did it and it isn't a possible problem with the gun.

I checked all of the casings from his range session and no other signs.

I saw a guy the other day do that with factory loaded ammo. I believe it was american eagle too.

I've done that with a few cases that were reloaded but, I have to admit, none have been as bad as that one. Usually the neck just splits a bit but, not the length of the full case like that one.

Don't have a hissie.

Imagine the hundreds of millions of rounds that they and other manufacturers crank out every week. It's bound to happen.

Have him send the case back to Federal. He'll probably get voucher coupons for a couple free boxes of ammo.

i had a .41 Remington factory do that once. I sent the case to Remington with a note. They sent me back an explanation of what they believe happened ( a burr on one of their forming dies ,if I recall correctly) and a box of ammo . This was in the early 80's so they sent ammo to me . XMM is right . Send in the case and see what happens.

I don't think that is a new case. You more than likely picked up someone else's case. Reloads typically do that after a number of loadings
