removable reloading mount?
I finally have enough stuff moved and put away from our move that I'm starting to plan out my garage. I really don't have room to do another bench out there. I was wondering if anyone else has done this. I was thinking of doing some reinforcing on my bench, then taking two pieces of MDF to mount the actual press too. I'd then clamp this MDF contraption to the bench when I need to reload. I'd only be able to clamp in three places though.
Any thoughts? It sure would be nice to avoid another bench out in the shop.

dont' go MDF. I machine the stuff every day, and it will crush. Go with some sort of solid wood panel. Maybe a some oak or hickory glued-up-stock finished really nice.
At the least get some 9 ply 3/4" plywood or something, Stay away from MDF. |

Not sure were you are located at but I go to a store called Harbor Freight to buy alot of my wood working items. THey have a 5' hard wood top and stand. You could lay it on top of an existing table that you have or use the stand. I know thay ship also.

Take a small piece of MDF anything and get it slightly wet.
Have a look at it after a day. MDF is strictly an ornamental, dry use material (moulding, etc.). |

I have an HF near me. That is a great price.
I was more concerned about space. I don't mind building a new bench but my garage/shop is getting very full of equipment. I was hoping I could build a base that could be clamped (I'm talking C clamps) to my existing work bench so that I could remove them when I do other projects.

For safety purposes and staying organized, I would opt for at least a dedicated small bench.

what size would you suggest? I will have a single stage and plan to add a progressive later on. I can do trimming etc on another bench so this would really be just for the loading process itself.

MidwayUSA has a pedestal type table for reloading presses. It looks like a small end table, maybe two feet tall, with an approximate 12x12 inch mounting plate on top for the press. Easy to set up and take down, and the pedestal takes up a small footprint and is easily stored. If you are interested, let me know and I'll try to get a more specific reference for you.
