Well, it really depends on how you measure (sales, employees, profit, revenue, assets...) Who cares, they are huge!

WalMart does other things to lower costs. Read once how they wanted to fit more deodorant on a shelf to minimize restocking. Talked to the mfrs and asked why they put deodorant in boxes. Voila, no more boxes! Even though we throw it away, packaging is not an insignificant cost.

Wal-mart does some other things to make their money. My brother used to be an assistant manager at one and before that he was automotive section manager and sporting goods manager. They would have a really cheap price on oil but then they may up the price of oil filters, oil pans, shop towels, etc. People come in buy the oil really cheap and pay more for the other items they wanted to get such as oil filter, air filter, shop towels.
In the WWB example, they may bump up the price on targets or something like that. It's not huge amounts but helps recover on other items plus it gets traffic in the store. Now for those who go in and just get the product that is cheap then it is a win win for them. But usually those people aren't the norm.

Stoped by sporting goods while grochery shoping. Abolutely no .40 whatsoever. They had about 4 boxes of 9mm value packs. I mean this **** is really getting rediculas. All I wanted was 1 value pack of .40. Or hell even some Blazer would have done. But no, people have to panic buy. Like World War three is coming. So to all the panic buyers thanks assholes. You are also hurting the mom and pop shops, now they have to pay a higher price. Which in tern have to raise the prices again to make a dollar. Guess it's all about you, and **** everyone else. I mean it would be horrible if you walked out with only 5 boxes, instead of lets say 20. Of course most of you that panic buy, and whipe out the shelves will never understand. That's the me only mantality.

My latest WWB .223 story involves the clerk arguing with me that the 50 round pack for 25ish dollars was cheaper than the 20 round boxes for 9.50ish. She stopped several times trying to concentrate how it could POSSIBLY be cheaper and concluded that it was NOT cheaper and that I should buy the 50 round boxes.

She also asked me why I needed so much ammo (5 20rnd boxes = 100 rounds) so I politely inquired if she would ask the same question if I was buying a single box of 9mm (100rnd wwb). "Uhh... no." (as if that was a stupid question).

Sometimes I think I'm being tested to see if I can be patient and polite.

Thumbs up

My colleague and I each purchased 500 rounds of .40 S&W at our local Wally World today, in the 250/rd Megapaks. The shelves were empty of all other ammo in 9mm, .45 and .357.

Pesonally, I think Wal-Mart does all of us a huge favor by selling ammunition cheaper than anyone else, and they do it because they're one of the most efficiently run businesses in the world. With persistance, even in these times, you can find ammo to buy at Wal-Mart. Maybe not on your first or second trip there, but they will get more eventually and you'll have an opportunity to buy it. Now, we can all piss and moan about the perceived evils of Wal-Mart, but at the end of the day you'll have to admit they have the ability to supply a product that we all want for less their competitors. Imagine what we'd be paying for ammo if there wasn't such a place as Wal-Mart.

My wife is an Executive with WalMart.. she informed me they own no trains.

WalMart is able to get such a good deal because they buy in BULK and have the warehouses to put it in. You always get a better deal if you buy 1 million boxes versus buying 100 boxes.
