scored 14 boxes of BB .40 at a Wally-World in GA this week (about 1.5hrs away from my house though, since the local ones seem all out lately).
I must say, the BB is some of the ugliest ammo I've seen, with all kinds of nicks and dents and haziness in the bullet. I've bought some 3000 rouinds of it, from various Wal-marts, and in various lots, and it's almost always ugly but seems to shoot fine. Kinda wonder if there are some nicks/dents in the side of the bullets that might eventually mess up the barrel or possibly scratch the feed ramp? The comparable UMC fodder on sale at Dick's was about $6 per box higher and that adds up when buying a case.
The Wally-world purchase was funny though... the clerk was a young woman, who looked like she was about 19 or 20, and apparently not very familiar with ammo. After several verbal directions to get her to the ammo I was pointing to behind the counter, she retrieved 1 box. I asked if she had a case of it, and she looked confused, saying they don't sell it like that. I said yes they do, and that it is just 20 boxes, and pointed at the cases of shotgun shells nearby and said it looks like that. There apparently weren't any at the couinter. So I asked how many they had and she asked if I wanted her to open the box and look at the bullets. I said, no, I mean boxes, to which she asked if I wanted her to count them..... ended up they had 14 boxes of the BB .40, and she was again confused when I said I wanted all of them. When she rang it up, the normal question came up "is this for a handgun, and is the customer 21".... I kinda grinned because it didn't appear to me that she was even 21 (but maybe I'm just getting older). Then she started baging the boxes, and loaded up one of the recycled plastic bags with about 10 boxes, and another with 4. By this time, another couple also interested in ammo was standing there, and the guy and I looked at each other and grinned, calmly noting that the bag probably wasn't going to hold that much and that it probably wouldn't be good for a bag to burst and fling bullets all over the floor. The clerk seemed to recognize that we were probably right, and then switched to the non-recycled bags, double bagged them, and spread it out over 3 bags. The clerk was nice enough, and not even blond... just didn't apparently know much about the guns and ammo :]
