Where can I find NATO length wood stocks?

The stock stocks on the AK seem to be made for the more midgety eastern european man (or your average central african conflict child). I like the length of NATO sized stocks for the AK, but can't seem to find any wood ones.

Anyone know where these can be found?

I asked the same question a few days back..scroll down the list and you'll see it.

No luck so far. I made one out of plywood but it looked like a bad stock made out of plywood . I'm not much of a woodworker at all so I talked to a guy over at Gunco.net who does custom wood parts. I'm having him make a nato length stock and upper handguard out of Claro Walnut.

I'm dying the wood transparent black..so you can still see the grain but it will be black. Never personally seen this done so I'm going to be original! maybe.

He does them in a lot of different kinds of wood.

Here is the post over there and you can see some examples of his work too.

Good luck!

Actually, I just got done doing an "ebony" treatment on a WASR stock. Going with a black stain is a sound idea if your intention is to hide the hideousness of the wood, and darken it to the extreme. In my case, I had horrible laminate wood with grain running in all different directions. The stain took to some parts better than others, and it creates some dark browns peeking through the black. Overall, I like the look, but it's nothing to "ooh and ahh" about. I plan to refinish the rifle in a two tone black n' tan scheme and I think the furniture will come into its own.

In your case, you would be ebonizing a nice piece of custom wood. The black will hide most of the beauty of the wood, and I think you might regret it in the end. if you're getting a nice custom walnut stock, I would reconsider going the ebony route.

Sorry, my camera is down at the moment, but maybe I can get some decent ones taken later

Sorry! Forgot to address the OP's question!

Ironwood Designs offers extended buttstock lengths. I do believe you'll need to finish them, but that's half the fun!

Try shouldering an AK while wearing cold weather gear OR a Load Bearing
Rig and then tell us its too short.

A 1 inch butt pad does wonders.

I wouldn't call the color i'm coming up with an ebony. You're right about ebony usually being pretty dark and hiding the grain..i'm going more of a see-through transparent black.
Here is a sample card of the dye i'm using.

My stock is more figured as far as grain than the above black dyed wood sample. I'm taking it slow and not rushing the project. I'll post pics when i'm done.

here is the site where I picked up my dye/stain. They have some other nice looking colors.

Interesting...they described it as "A rich, ebony black."

Different types of wood take stain/dye differently. I look forward to seeing how claro walnut accepts it. I'll try to get some pics of my "ebonized" laminate this weekend.
