Buffer Really Necessary?
Is a buffer like blackjacks and a couple other brands really necessary? Does it reaaaaaaaally have metal fatigue dampening values? or is it just another ak accessory that is useless?
I was considering picking a couple up but I didn't want to be gimmicked. I figure the ak will outlive me anyway but if it really dampens metal fatigue, I'd be into picking a couple up. *this may have been discussed before but my search thing sucks. |

i think they are gimmicks if they actually worked wouldnt they put them on the military versions that see far more use and abuse than a semi auto civilian version?

That's exactly what I was thinking. In a full auto military AK under heavy stress I can see maybe one slightly working but in a semi auto civilian ak, not so much.
Was just curious. I talked with a guy today praising them and making me feel like an idiot because I didn't have one in mine. |

Overrated. I figure that the military would have started to use them a long time ago if they did ANY good at all.

If it effects functioning, yes it can be that bad.

Granted they are cheap but if they are basically useless, I would rather spend the $9+ s/h on a surplus mag or a couple boxes of ammo.

I've heard of the 1911 ones breaking apart during operation and causing the weapon to lock up requiring a mallet to disassemble it. I think it was over on the m1911.org forums.
