New to me Norinco Have ?s

I just picked up a Norinco today with a few extra mags and a 75 round drum for 400. Part of my celebration in the recent 2A ruling and the fact I really wanted an AK.

Now on to the questions.

I really don't care for the stock. Will all stocks for other AKs (IE TAPCO or just regular wooden furniture) fit the Norinco?

I was thinking about buying either a regular wooden stock set off of gun broker or the EE or getting a TAPCO furniture set. The only thing with the TAPCO furniture set is I want the fixed stock but would possibly be willing to go to the M4 style stock if I needed to.

You need to find out which receiver you have...is the 'butt' of the receiver cut square, angled, or have a radius?? Usually you have to fit stocks and furniture to most Chinese guns since they have thicker receivers.

Looks like either a #5 or #6 on your list. The reciever is stamped. And it has a single tang off the rear.

Pull the butt stock off to find out, some have stocks that go over the receiver to make it look a radius or angled. If it is square, just fit the new butt to the receiver. If it has a radius, you can use a common stock, but it will have 'gap' where the raidus is unless you make your own stock. that is fairly easy with plywood and lets you 'customize' it for comfort/looks. Just glue a bunch of plywood together to the thickness and length you want, then start shaping!

Sec. 178.39 Assembly of semiautomatic rifles or shotguns.
(a) No person shall assemble a semiautomatic rifle or any shotgun using more than 10 of the imported parts listed in paragraph (c) of this section if the assembled firearm is prohibited from importation under section 925(d)(3) as not being particularly suitable for or readily adaptable to sporting purposes.
(b) The provisions of this section shall not apply to:
(1) The assembly of such rifle or shotgun for sale or distribution
by a licensed manufacturer to the United States or any department or agency thereof or to any State or any department, agency, or political subdivision thereof; or
(2) The assembly of such rifle or shotgun for the purposes of
testing or experimentation authorized by the Director under the
provisions of Sec. 178.151; or
(3) The repair of any rifle or shotgun which had been imported into or assembled in the United States prior to November 30, 1990, or the replacement of any part of such firearm.

I changed out the fire control group, the stock and pistol grip with USA made parts to get my five US parts. If you have a slant brake you will need six US parts to legally change the stock.

Way ahead of you. I did research on 922r when I was working on my SKS before I decided to just stick to stock furniture.

I'm just wanting to now go to regular wood furniture and I'll put the "G2" trigger group in it. That should get me to the proper number of parts.

I found a place that sells US made replacement wood furniture unfinished so I'll be able to put my own finish on it.

I'll have to post pics when I get done. It should look like a regular AK when I'm done but I'm going to have to cut threads on the barrel for a muzzle break.
