HELP me talk my wife in shooting the AK-47+ - XDTalk Forums - Your HS2000/SA-XD Information Source!

Is it wrong of me to encourage my wife to squeeze just a few rounds down range to become familiar with this fine rifle? I am also trying to have her shoot the XD45/XD9 (Service).

She is fine shooting a .357 revolver (GP100), .380, .22. but fears branching out.

She is watching/reading. Please talk to her, she listens to ya'll... She goes by "SophiaLouise " (long story).

Range day is Sat. or Sun.

she sounds like a smart lady. Let her make her own decisions. If she decides she wants to try it put 5 or less rounds in the mag and have her give it a whirl.

I'd say let her come around when she's ready, when I take my wife to the range she usually doesn't have fun if I try to get her to try something she doesn't really want to try. She'll come around eventually but I know where you're coming from, it's a lot of fun to shoot the AK and you just want to share the experience. Btw my wife will not get near my AR.... yet

Let her decide. It's great that she's already shooting a .357, and other things as well, but in her time she'll decide.

Is she concerned about recoil?

Leave her alone and let her shoot what she wants Be thankful she enjoys going to the range with you. Just my $0.02.

Start out small. I know it sounds weird, but tell her your just loading one round at a time. One round in the mag for some reason has increased confidence in some of the female shooters the Wife and I have taught. Good Luck and just let her tell you when she feels comfortable. Believe me when she starts shooting your AK your wallet will take a good hit

That's a good point, I've seen some ladies at the range with their husbands/boyfriends that had this look on their face like someone was throwing their makeup bags into a 300 degree oven.

All that you can depend on from a 45 is that it will drill a .45 - .70 inch hole about 14 inches into someone. There will not be "energy dump", people will not fly backwards, and they will not necessarily fall as if they have been struck by lighting.
