Also, if it's just part of the rifle factor that is making you hesitant, start on a .22 and work your way up. Just do what you're comfortable with.

It's been a rough road with my girlfreind. She didn't want to shoot anything but my .22 rifle. I pretty much had to force her to shoot the XD. Then she ended up liking it and wouldn't let me shoot it. Later on down the road I got a .22 pistol and now she claims it as hers. It was very difficult to get her to shoot the AR15. She still thinks it kicks, but trust me, it doesn't. She won't even touch the AK.
One of these days I will get her to shoot it more than a couple times. She just needs to try more often and she will get it. |

I believe she should know how to shoot all the weapons that you keep for those SHTF situations, there's no telling how many weapons you'll have for how long depending on how things go. If you're not there and that is the only one available, then she should know. Even if she doesn't like it, at least learning a little of the mechanism of the rifle will be beneficial. And she shouldn't have to spend more than 15 minutes with the rifle overall to learn most of the mechanism.
Although i'm sure (since the operation is simple enough on the AK) that she could at least learn the mechanism and pickup shooting on the fly. so it would really be completely her call.

If little 10yr old African kids can use this rifle to go to war (however sad that may be) it really does speak of how simple and easy this platform is to use. If a 10yr old can use it everyday, then you should be able to put a few rounds through it.
Shoot one round from the hip, then reload and shoot singles from the shoulder. It feels like getting a "Good Job Buddy!" pat on the back, but on your shoulder instead. |

LOLOLOL..... We all just lauged when she told us what she did, but she had NO bruises. Now, ALL the Gals do this come range day... Firts and foremost, load only ONE round in the magazine, then Hold the rifle TIGHT to the shoulder, and just squeeze the trigger. If after that first round you like it, load another round and shoot again. If you dont like it, well at least you TRIED, and you dont have to shoot it no more, unless you want to .... and tell Hubby to quit bothering you .... Same goes for the XD. load just one round in the magazine, Grip the gun up high on the backstrap, and squeeze the trigger. Good luck. P.S. my 11 yr old girl shoots my XD .40 ALL the time now when we go out shooting. Ol' pop hardly gets to shoot it at all... but thats ok, she LOVES Guns.... Hope this helps...

welcome to the forum .. the bruising is not that bad really it shows only when you shoot like a bunch of times , you will probably not like the trigger slap unless it has those new triggers. It took me awhile to shoot my husbands' many ak's and his ar . it was too crazy for me but then he bought me an m44 cause i love old rifles .. and man that thing shoots loud and hard .. like a freakin' cannon .. and after that i wasn't scared of the ak or ar recoil anymore .. hehe ..
the funny things is my husband doesn't like to shoot the m44 cause it is too much for him .. lol but yea shoot when you are ready .. or try something that is the really loud and has a hard recoil that way all the other ones would be a piece of cake. hehe but that is just me.

I don't know if it will help, but my AK-47 underfolder was my wife's favorite gun to shoot. She prefers it over the AR which has even less recoil and is more comfortable to shoot.

sophia louise i think your mind has made it more scary that it could ever be. If you are strogn enough to handle a .357 mag a 7.62x39 (ak round) is nothing special. If you hold the rifle or shotgun correctly you wont get bruised, and if you do it incorrectly it thumps you, its not like dislocating you shoulder, it more like bumping it getting into a car, or in a door way etc. My sks shoots 7.62x39 and its very very mild, you should be just fine. The first couple just focus on proper form holding it right, and snug, and if you miss the target completely no big deal. Get a few rounds off and see that its no big deal. By round 5 youll be hitting the target just fine.
i think allot of folks might be more hesitant about a .357 mag maybe in your mind a rifle is a big hulking man tool, not for little ladies. Not the case my sister used to shoot with my dad and my bros when she was a little girl in elementry school maybe 4th grade ? sks rifles witht he same round you would be shooting in the AK |

So I didn't get to the range today...but maybe next weekend.
I did get to see the Blue Angels perform - wow, everytime I see them it just makes me smile! Can hardly wait to see them again tomorrow! I appreciate all the helpful info and I am going to try it...we'll post the proof once we make it to the range. |
