Great looking rifle! Have you had a chance to shoot it yet? Any problems with canted sights on yours? It was probably a good idea to grab one up just in case they become illegal sometime in the future.

No, haven't shot it yet. No problems that I can tell but it does have some mag wobble which I'm not freaked out over as long as the mag doesn't drop on it's own. Eh, it's a beginners model. As long as it shoots and functions properly, no big deal to me. If not, it goes back! I understand there are mags that will fit tighter, Bulgarian polymer I think. Will find out how it shoots on Sunday.

almost all AK have some mag wobble, these arent exactly precision mechines (well, most of them arent ayway) so i am sure it will do just fine.

Mags wobble, its no biggy at all. The WASR was never made to hold high cap mags (The WASR rifles did not "make the cut" and were sold as sporter rifles, unlike the Romy Gs, which were built for the Romanian guard, and were built to accept high caps from the get go), and the receiver has no mag dimples because of this. If you can find em, get some black polymer Bulgarian "waffle" mags, they are tighter than the steel surps, so less wobble, and unlike cheapo US made polymers, they have steel feed lips.

??? WASRs are purpose built sporting rifles just like Saiga rifles. They are not 'military' rifles like the Civl Guard and 'standard' Romanian AKs. The only difference in them is the receiver, they all are built at the same factory, on the same machines. They get the same guts, except the Civil Guard and WASRs are semi auto only, from the factory...

WASR parts are from military builds that were not up to spec. It is not a slam, it is just how those parts came into existance. There are many WASRs out there that are fine weapons. Just because they failed one inspection does not make them terrible, many WASRs are fine guns.

Before Cugir was shut down, their non-spec parts were probably still better than some AKM parts that met spec out of Sadar. Now only Sadar remains, and the quality of all the parts are suspect, compared to the Cugir days.

There is an excellent source for all things ak, AK files forum. You can get first hand info of the arsenals there, here is a snippet from dstorm over there, explaining the wasr a bit.

Quote:
Actually the WASR is built from components which failed quality control inspection for use in military spec rifles, now how bad they fail can vary quite a bit from component to component ie; a run of front trunions is being sorted they will be passed down a workbench with 6-8 inspectors working it the bench is split leangth wise and is about 5 feet wide the front 3 feet is a solid metal table the back 2 feet is a slow conveyor the trunions will be measured for barrel hole fit by 3 inspectors using a gauge with 4 acceptable diameters for the hole, these same inspectors then check for hardness next concentricity (they have a milled block in front of them that is cut so only a perfectly straight trunion will fit right side, left side...... it then gets handed to the next inspector and the next if it fails at any point for any reason it just gets tossed to the conveyor where it is dumped in a bin the other two inspectors are pulling stuff randomly off the conveyor, they are the "oversight" for the other 3 to make sure stuff that could be used in a military rifle isn't just gettin tossed etc... for the most part they just sit and stare at the other 3 all day....

Each component goes through its own inspection bench all of the bins when full go over to the 3 assembly lines where WASR rifles are built and stacked up there to become WASR components, now over here they get inspected again by 2 inspecors and no fancy converor if they fail over here then they go into another bin and head back to the smelter............

So basically the WASR is built from parts only rejected once............ a second time and they are just melted down. SAR were done the same way back in the day BUT Cugir arsenal was still producing parts and even a rejected barrel from CUGIR is still 4 times higher quality than a rejected SADAR arsenal barrel, these days SADAR is the only arsenal actually producing AKMs
Dstorm has many bits of info that are great and hard to find elsewhere, due to the experiences his family has had in Romania. Check it out if you are looking to get a first hand view of the Romy AK story.
