anyone use Monarch 7.62x39 ammo?
I was at Academy Sports during a lunchbreak today...getting another brick of 22s for my daughter's 10-22. Now that she is proficient with the 10-22 and learned how to load the Tactical Inc. hi-cap mag - she is buring through rimfire ammo at a great rate! All this at age 9.
I came across some 7.62x39 ammo at a not too dear price (a little under 5 bucks a box of 20) and decided to give it a try. NO...I have not bought the AK....YET...but I decided to feed the Chinese SKS this weekend as my daughter turns cans into sieves with the 10-22.
This stuff is in a 20rd bule box, about the size of a Wolf box. It is called "Monarch" and says it is made in Russia. Checking with other Monarch made ammo at this store, some says "made in Serbia" on the box (the 9mm pistol ammo). It is steel cased fmj stuff and looks surprisingly like the Barnaul stuff.
Anyone run this stuff through an SKS or AK? Did it function well? Accurate? Overly filthy? My SKSs are NOT picky.
Maybe this stuff has been out for a while, I dunno. I usualy don't buy ammo at Academy. I mail order most of my rifle stuff and Wal Mart's Blazer Brass prices beat Academy by a long shot ... is this stuff new? They had Monarch ammo in all sorts of calibers...30-06 and 7mag.
Well, I ouly got 4 boxes so if its crap..I am not out much, but if its decent...this is not bad for readily available, easy to get to 7.62x39. With today's shipping prices it is becoming not so mush a deal to mail order this caliber anymore.
Thanks in advance for the comments!

It's made by the same people at Wolf. Barnaul, if I remember correctly. it should say on the box. They have some other "Monarch" stuff that is brass cased and made in Serbia. cost more, but good stuff. The beauty of the AK is it doesn't care about ammo. It will shoot it as well as anything else. accuracy is AK good and you can't beat the price. I use it all the time.

I am going to be runing it through my SKSs...probably the Chinese military SKS. SKSs are like AKs...they don't really care about ammo, either.
Still trying to decide on which AK to get. I like the G-code Romos because they're alot less than others, but the Saigas that are modded by Heavy Metal Guns and sold by Aim look really nice, too. It would be nice to have an AK built in the original birthplace of the AK.
I am getting closer on which AK to buy....but I want to research them all first. I am learning alot along the way.

I think AIM is out of the converted Saiga's, but Centerfire Systems, Inc. has some. i would personally go with a true Russian AK.

I use the monarch stuff all the time, it feeds fine for me and I haven't really noticed any severe residue from it. Now the .45acp monarch is a different story!

I saw it also. I picked some up and I grabbed a couple boxes of the .223 for like 8 bucks a box too.
I won't be shooting the AK for a bit, but I am sure it will be at least as good as the Golden Tiger I usually put through it.
