Chinese
I've seen a lot of talk about AK's from a lot of different countries, but haven't read anything on where the Chinese made AK's fit in as far as typical quality. Just wandering 'cause I saw a used one w/Tapco at a pawn shop for $450.

The Type 56 right? I think that's China's copy of the AK. I haven't heard anything special about it, but neither have I heard anything bad.
I'm pretty sure it is just your typical, run of the mill AK. But please, don't support China. I have a feeling that they're going to be a huge pain in the ass in the upcoming years.

Aren't the Polytechs made in China? I shot one of those once a few years back and it was very nice. Seems like they go to alot of trouble and make everything more "heavy duty". I could be wrong but that was my memory.

IIRC I paid $79 for my SKS in the late 80's. That was retail at a gun shop. Mine was one of the mil surplus ones that came in when they first started importing them.

I have a norinco , and although i've had it modified , it is an awesome weapon. I'm going to get a romy or a yugo sometime , just so i can say i'm well rounded. I've heard people say that you can't have too many firearms.

Chinese guns are great. The receiver is thicker than 'normal' AKs so you may have to fit the furniture to it. other than that, and the fact that they are smi auto, its the same AK that was issued to the Chinese military.
