Red dot sights!

I was just on the AR forum , and the question came up about EOTECH or AIMPOINT? so does anyone use them on the AK , and how do they hold up? Another thing is that they are ment to be mounted on an AR , so how do they perform out to 100 yards or better?

Personally....i don't see the need for an EOTECH type sight on an AK. If you look at the reticle design on a holo type sight its typically a half circle or full circle with a dot or chevron in it. Now look at the front sight of an AK rifle.....same thing.

I have read and heard from users that the Kobra type optics work best (one piece rail mount and optic, as opposed to rail mount and seperate optic).

I would have a hard time justifying spending that much money on a sight for my AK's. Just find a more "economical" red dot sight and mount it to the stock side mounted holder/rail.
Out of all of my AK's I've only put the red dot on my 308; the rest I just use the iron sights.
Now, if you want to pimp out an AR and be a mall ninja, go right ahead

to answer your question, yes it will hold up. As for putting one on an Ak I have seen it. It actually looks pretty good. They do work way past 100 yrds, they have some that have ballistics drop up to 500m. I just got my first and I love it. If you can afforda Eo for your ak and you have a secure way tomount it, Do it.

Not to start an argument, but I can see a real need for such a thing.
It's called eyes that are not what they used to be. I have trouble with darn near anything that has iron sights. Corrective lenses that allow me to focus on the front sight ... Make for a very blurry target at 20 yards ... So forget anything long distance ... The opposite is also true ... A lense that allows me to see a distant target means I can't focus on the front sight.

A good red dot, holosight or regular scope is a wonderful thing when your eyes require glasses.

ETA: Personally, I wish I had another 3 of the Eotech/Bushnell type sight!!!

I'm right there with you on the vision issues. I'm able to use the iron sights on the AR out to about 100 yards but that's it. I also have bifocals built in my glasses that make it really difficult to line up short/long range. I've heard there are places that will make reverse bifocal glasses with the reading portion on top but have not pursued this. I put a Tasco on the AR and it has worked wonders for me.

I'll put a Cobra or PK series (look under red dot sights)
up against an Eotech or Aimpoint any day of the week and twice on Sunday....

I put a Bushnell Trophy red/green dot scope on my Saiga-12... I LOVE IT!! Of course it is for when I shoot slugs and I have it sighted in at a close range... but it looks cool and serves me well and it works better than the factory sight bridge.
