Weiger mags are steel and made in Germany-best ones to come out of Europe. Romania made steel 5,45 mags that were converted (forgot about those, use to seeing just the Century converted bakelites). You can try ProMag mags, som people have good luck, some don't. Bulgarian Poly mags should work as will Yugo mags, but Yugo mags are expensive. Converted mags will work great, but there is more to it than just changing the follower....

I hated my wood on my WASR. Instead of replacing it, I went to Home Depot, got a can of stain and a can of poly.
I took 220 grit paper to it before staining and polying it. Stained it with Red Oak (Not red enough in my opinion) and then put several thick coats of poly on it. I didn't even take the furnature off the AK. Just taped off the areas that needed it. While refinishing my stock, I thought that it would have been cool if I was good at wood burning or making a brand. A hammer and sickel burned into the wood or a burned in red star, painted bright red would have been cool. Heck, even putting a sticker underneath before putting on a THICK coat of poly would be kinda cool. Hope this helps. Hardwarz

yeah me and my dad were talking about how the wood was rough. i was just gonna rub it down with some linseed oil and put some poly on it, but i think i will stain it after all.

You won't regret the WASR. It's not the best out there, but it's an AK. It'll shoot whatever you put in it.
The butt stock plate comes off with 2 screws. Take that off before you stain and poly. It's an easy process, just make sure you wait between coats of poly or you'll end up with runs that you'll have to deal with. If you get runs, you can use finer and finer sand paper to get them out and then buff out the scratches last. Hope that helps. Hardwarz
