Are you talking about the STG 2000? Supposedly, they are amazing guns, but I've never been able to fire one. Peeps I know say they're better than any AK varient they've tried.

If I remember correctly, the STG whatever (can't remember number) was an East German design on the AK made for NATO's 5.56, and they planned to make it as a main good of export. When the Wall fell, they basically threw the idea out, as it was no longer needed.

It is still the same gun, it was just made to US standards so that it could be legally bought here.

In my opinion, it is probably the coolest looking AK. And, again, although I've never shot one, I know people who say that they are the most accurate and reliable of the AKs.

Its a half hearted attempt at a Weiger STG940 copy. Refinished (inside and out) WaSR rifle with a Bulgarian barrel thats re threaded to 1/2x28 to take an A2 style flash hider. STG941s have been encountered in Serbia, I have shot them before along with many other troops there. Whenn the DDR folded and Suhl shut down, a bunch of parts hit the market with some even coming here. There are quite a few in European museums and even some still in Germany for training use.
Neat looking gun, but the could have used a better gun to make a nicer rifle. The only really unique thing about it is the furniture, since its not offered to the public.

This is the same gun with a welded muzzle extension because they were built as pistols by Century and then redone back to a rifle.

No not talking about the STG , it was pictured right above the ak I am referring to, the one I am referring to is a black polymer dressed traditional looking 47, only completely made in USA

I bought one last week. But as of the import restrictions, the newer versions will be All U.S. made components.

Barrels will be made by Mossberg from what I was told at IOinc from now on. And they will not be chrome lined. I don't know who'll be doing the other parts.

The stg I have was bought new in the box and was one of the first run imports that had a chrome lined hammer forged barrel. I do really like it, but I've yet to get the flashider off of there to exchange it to a YHM Phantom. (Don't laugh, it gaurantee's another compliance part even though I was told the one that is on it is a regular US AR15 flashider in either .223 or 7.62x39 repectively but the YHM is marked unlike the OEM part). The rifle I have is one of the first runs and has 11 compliance parts if you include Promag or Tapco magazines.

Buttstock, grip, forend, tapco G2 trigger/hammer/sear, US A1 flashider, mag body, follower, floorplate, and at least the reciever cover.

Contrary to what people have been saying on various forums, they are NOT the same guns as the WASR's even though they are made in the same country.

I have a buddy with a romy wasr10 and the magwell's are considerably different when compared side by side. The cuts in the stg are opened up in all the right places and gobble up the promag hi caps effortlessly. The wasr 10 on the other hand wouldn't even accept the same mag.

I wish I had taken a pic of the two together, but didn't think about it at the time. I didn't think I'd have an online conversation about them or I would've.

Buttstock swaps out with an AK47 ATI strikeforce collapsible/folder buttstock.

The stg pistol grip screw is a little shorter than a regular AK grip screw, so I did have to order a regular screw from Brownell's so I can use the grip that came with the stock kit. It should be here thursday. The OEM grip is OK, but I like the ATI grip over the skinny saw grip because it fits me better.

My biggest drawback to the gun is the forend. It really does suck and there are no aftermarket replacements for it that I know of. That is the rifles' biggest disappointment to me. If anyone has any suggestions, I'm all ears.

It's not a regular top and bottom forend. It's more of a bad attempt to mimick the old triangle handguards on the M16's and are a right and left side instead of top and bottom. They wobble, and they feel weak and I don't like them at all. I'm still thinking of a way to remedy that, but have came up empty so far.

Accuracy of the 7.62 version I have is at least on par with any other AK I've shot. maybe not any better, but certainly not any worse. At least off-hand. I've not scoped it and shot it for groups or anything, so take that for what it's worth. All of my shooting has been done offhand. I can say it will put every bullet I shoot into a gallon antifreeze jug at 150 yards though. That's good enough for my expectations for it.

Reliability so far has been flawless as well, though I prefer to reserve judgement until I get more rounds downrange with it, but overall I'm pretty happy with it.

Sorry, its a WaSR...All the early ones had the names mostly wiped out. I've seen a bunch, its a WaSR. Whats the only AK type rifle not chambered in 7.62x54R that Romania imports to the US under the Wassenaar Arrangement....thats the WA in WaSR! Whats on the other side of the receiver just below the front trunnion rivits?? Does it say Cugir?? Thats in Alba and home to the S.C. Uzinele Mecanice Cugir S.A steel factory where WaSRs are made....

Sorry, but I have to downgrade your (John A's) response due to the love of AK Promags...they are crap.
