100% American made? Somehow I have my doubts about that claim. Last I checked, no American company was manufacturing bolt carriers, bolts, front or rear trunions, front sight blocks, or gas blocks.

If there is a company out there turning out these items, I'd think it would be even more newsworthy than a I.O. rifle. Of course, Einheit has probably forgotten more about AKs than I'd care to even learn, so he can correct me if I'm wrong.

I have the STG-2003C, which is the .223 version and it's worked flawlessly for me. Have to agree on the front handguards, wish they had a better option available as that's the only downside I've found to this rifle. It shoulders really nice and cleans up very easily. Been considering selling it though to fund a move to an AR.

I'm just going by what the lady at IOinc told me when I was calling asking questions about the differences in the older and newer version of them and which parts were compliance parts. I'm far from an expert on AK's. I'm still pretty new to them.

To answer the question about stamping around the front trunion, other than the importers mark, and model and serial number, etc on the reciever, I can't find any symbol or stamp indicating anything other than imported from Romania, though IO did say they were supposed to have came from Cugir.

I did find a "78" stamped in the barrel though under the handguards, but that probably doesn't mean much. That's probably more of an assembler mark.

SeattleEducati, I don't have love for promags. It's what came with the gun and was used as an example, though I haven't had any trouble from it. Though I'm aware of their reputation.

After snooping around some more, it doesn't appear that I.O. makes any claims about it being 100%, or completely made in the USA. They claim it as being "Made in the USA" which would technically be correct. It is made (or built) in the USA using a mixture of foreign and American made parts. We see the same thing in rifle scopes. I have a $500 Burris scope that is marked "Made in the USA" but I can guarantee you that the glass lenses were manufactured in Japan. They get off on the technicality.

There's a big difference between saying something is "Made in the USA" and something is "100% American made" etc. Hell, Honda's are widely know to be Japanese cars, but the truth is the majority of them are built here in the USA using a mixture of parts from Japan and Ohio. Referring to it as "American made" or a "Japenese car' won't offend anyone, as they are both technically correct. Don't be fooled by marketing. I should know, I do it for a living

Hmm, I already have an AK in 7.62x39mm. If they build one in 12 gauge, I'd buy one. Prices of Saiga-12s are insane. Makes me wish I bought crateful a couple years ago out of the CDNN catalog for $189 + ship.

And yeah, those look like the "STG-2000s" for sale out of Southern Ohio Gun and AIM Surplus about a year or so ago. $389 + ship if I remember right...

My AK is made in the United States, by an American, of Polish and American Parts. Good enough for me.

I think I may have found a solution to the forend "problem". But I'm going to have to think about it a while and find out more about it to make sure everything would work together though since it sure isn't a "cheap fix" by any stretch of the imagination.

Samson Manufacturing: SAMSON K-Rail Model 1 (for the AK-47)

I'm really not trying to turn it into a tactikool rifle by any stretch of the imagination. I just want something that feels better and more solid to me. The samson should fill that need, but dang that's still a lot of moolah.

Does anyone know of any other forend or forend rail that mounts in this manner?

Another good question at this point may be, what would be involved in exchanging the handguard cap and whatever else to convert it over to a regular style forend. Or would that be possible with the gas port placement?

I would be just as happy with a regular forend, but don't know exactly what I need to buy to do that or from where.
