Permanent Wood Stock Vs. Foldable Stock?
well my friend and i are really about to pick up some AK's from a local dealer. Let me tell you what we're working with. Theyre both Romanian AK-47's. The full wooden stock is $489.00 and the foldable stock is $509.00. I believe the foldable stock is better because of its versatility from situation to situation. I can still keep a full stock when im out target shooting, but if someone invades my house i can keep the stock folded for CQC and manueverability. Obviously this is an inherent advantage for collapsable stocks on any assault rifle. That being said, when i gave my friend the lay out for why the foldable stock is superior, he countered with saying, "yeah thats a good point, and definately could come in handy some time, but i heard the foldable stock AK's are less accurate and more cheaply made, they fall apart faster". He didnt have any real basis for making this statement but just said thats what he's heard from people. So I said, being on this forum, i would try and get some info from you experienced guys. So what do you think, please give me some info, because it will help my decision and my friends when we go to make the purchase.

Fixed stock....purchase a folder later on. There is no situation where a folding stock will 'help' you when using the weapon, unless its for transport or storage, you live in an APC or a tank, or you've fallen in love with the movie 'The Kingdom'...unless you plan on firing from the hip, you will extend your arms when you shoot an AK with the stock folded and you will be off balance. You actually hold the rifle closer to your body when shooting with the a fixed stock...although you may just have a thing for folders....

I would get whatever is cheaper and then I decided to get the adjustable tapco stock because the standard-sized wood AK stock was uncomfortably small for me.

I got a fixed stock originally. Then I spent $40 and got a collapsible one.

Is the stock a under-folder or side-folder? Both are less stable then a fixed but the side folder ususlly is more stable and offers a better checkweld IMHO.

A side folder offers no more less 'stability' than a fixed stock...as long as there is no play in the hinge. Same for an under folder. The best thing about the fixed stock is the weight, it helps you balance the nose heavy AK.

See these guns with folding stocks...right side, left side and under folders...no 'lees stable or less accurate' that the fixed stock guns. these are also Factory parts and not 'cheap' stocks like Ramline, Tapco, and ATI... ![]() ![]()
