Which for around $500?

I'm sure this topic has been beaten to death but I would like everybody's opinion. I have around $500 to spend on an AK. Which is the best I can afford?

* I like the wooden furniture (though I would like the option of switching synthetic/plastic ones)

* I also like underfolds although this isn't too big of a deal.

*7.62x39

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks for the replies.

I'm at work so I can't check the links until I get home. I've heard great things about the Yugo's but my only concern is the non-chrome lined barell. Since this will be my only AK, I would feel "safer" with a chrome lined one.

i have 2 Yugos. the underfold and the wooden stock one . they work good . but then again i don't shoot it as much as my Romanian . I heard the Yugo's underfold get loose overtime. I shoot more the wooden stock yugo than the yugo underfold though

500 you could get a Yugo Underfolder. they dont have crome lined barrels, but i dont think it matters unless you are shooting thousands of rounds or corrosive ammo.

you could also go the polish route, get a kit and receiver and either build it your self or have a builder do it for you.

or you could get a bulgarian rifle for a few hundred $ more. there are lots of options out there. AIM has a bulgarian 7.62x39 for around 500+ might be an option for you.

I have a yugo underfolder and it is a great rifle. the only thing not chrome on the damn thing is the inside of the barrel. Chrome linned barrels are not important as long as you arent shooting a **** load of ammo 25000 rounds+ You wont be shooting crossive ammo either as most ammo nowadays are non corosive. You cant go wrong with a yugo with the new US made barrles heres a pick of mine.

Personally, I'd buy this and spend the rest on ammo. Shot one of these today, worked like a charm....even though its a WaSR
