Well, there are a number of reason I like the AK more than the AR...I do own both.
You can get a cheap AK for less than a cheap AR, but if you buy a nice AK, it will shoot extremely accurate... AK's are not innacurate despite what many say, even the cheap ones. 7.62 is cheaper usualy than .223, so that is a plus. I got my AK before mt AR for a number of reasons. I reccomend getting both eventualy, but if I could only have one it would be the AK for the above mentioned reasons. AK's are fun to shoot, easy to clean, and very simple to work on. Overall they are a great gun. I am not knocking the AR, but again, if there can only be one, then it is the AK. |

Price.
I purchased a Saiga 7.62 a few months ago and have been VERY happy. My choice was due to cost, I just could not part with the cash required for a good AR. Not really planning on converting, purchased a Tapco pistol grip stock and I'm set. Just a great gun for the money. If money was not a consideration, I would have purchased the AR........and the Saiga.

The AK is eviler and blacker than that other EBR.
I've become a bit of a Russian/combloc firearm fan, so the AK is the next step in the collection for me anyway, but here are my high points even if I weren't already favorably predisposed to them: 1. Rugged, simple construction 2. Legendary reliability even under really nasty conditions 3. Cheaper ammo 4. Pistons are more better than teensy gas tubes 5. They tend to scare people just by showing up 6. Half the world's armies and three-quarters of the narco-militias and guerilla fighters can't be wrong 7. Einheit has about sixty-seven of them, so they must be okay 8. Liberals desperately want to ban them, so they must be okay 9. They're so manly I sometimes feel...uh...inadequate when looking at hi-cap banana mags 10. They're designed to be easily field-stripped, reassembled, and used effectively by half-drunk, half-frozen illiterate conscripts. That gives me hope I might be able to become at least semi-proficient.
