Just talked to my FFL. AK is here but I can't get it until tomorrow. One more day won't kill me I guess!

Well I picked it up today! Not bad. Alot lighter than I expected but I guess I should have figured that since it doesn't have the wood furniture. Seems pretty decent for the price. I like the leather pouch I got with the extra mags too. Can't wait to shoot it. If the weather cooperates this weekend I think I will take it out and try to zero it.

By the way, since the rear sight doesn't have windage does anyone know a good place to get a front sight tool. I guess that would be the best way to adjust the windage instead of a hammer and punch. What do you guys do? This is my FIRST AK and I guess I will have somewhat of a learning curve. I think I might clean it first too. Seems to be pretty well oiled up but I like to fiddle and get an idea of what I am working with. Some of the magazines have some sand in them too. I can always find a way to keep myself busy!

I use a brass punch, a medium-size hammer and whatever metal ring you have laying around to rest the sight base on and give the windage drum somewhere to go. Sight in at 25 yards. If you're shooting to the right, tap the windage drum with the hammer and punch until it moves to the right a bit. Do the opposite if you're shooting left. When I say tap, I mean start light and hit it harder and harder until it moves. If it moves too far, flip it over and tap it back. It's easy and saves you the 30 bucks or whatever for a tool that may not work so well.

Right on, I get how to sight the rifle (something I picked up in the Marines!) I was just wondering what was best used. The punch and hammer seem easy enough. What about elevation on the front? Just a pair of pliers? Looks easy enough but I don't want to hurt the little front sight if you know what I mean.

I researched the rear sight with adjustable windage to but they cost like $130 so that is way off the list unless I find someone w/ one laying around they are dying to get rid of on the cheap!

No offense meant, I was just pointing out how easy it is to do without buying a special tool.

Did you get a cleaning kit with your gun? If so, open it up and take the flat piece with 2 prongs on one end. Stick the flat end through the slot in the cleaning kit tube. Voila - you have your elevation adjuster. The end of the flat tool with the 2 small prongs on it fits down over the sight post, and the cleaning kit tube acts as a handle to give you the torque you need to rotate the sight post in or out/up or down.

I would guess if you didn't get the kit with your gun that a set of smooth-jaw needlenose pliers would work as well.

No offense taken I was just being sarcastic. No I did not get a cleaning kit with it so I am out of luck on that one. I guess I could find one somewhere online if I wanted I suppose. Actually I think my FFL has some laying around. If so I'll get one off of him. Either way I'll figure it out. Thanks for the info.

I just hope the weather is good enough to shoot this weekend. I think Sat is like 80% chance of rain though.
