One more of the Saiga - now done.

And here she is - in all her high-cap glory. TOTALLY snapped a tap over the weekend trying to install the bullet guide, but I had 1/2 the hole tapped so I just cut the dang screw in half. I used loc-tite and staked it as well, so I don't think it's going anywhere. As soon as it drys out around here I'm taking it to the range.

Thats a good looking gun, broken taps can be a bitch to get out if the break below the hole, you didnt leave it did you?

No, I got super-lucky in that the broken piece came out pretty easily. It was sticking through the bottom of the trunion so I got some needle-nose pliers and wiggled it out.

You got real lucky, sometimes they will shatter as they break and you can use a pick to knock them out of the hole. If you got the tap out, you could have just bought another one and finished but if you used loctite and staked it, i would say its going to stay there

Thanks man, I relied heavily on this step-by-step. Just remember to maintain parts-count compliance.

Saiga Conversion

Yes sir, I got really lucky. And that's a great idea - if it works loose I'll look into another tap or maybe even a rivet.

Hey - that's my gun!

And I about died when I saw the box my Saiga came in. I designed a box concept for my company a couple years ago that was almost exactly the same, except the rivets went down the center of the cross bands instead of on each side. I had the wood grain and everything...
