Why are there no pistol caliber AKs?

I have been itching for a 9mm carbine for a while (no, i am not looking for suggestions) and I noticed that there are no pistol-caliber carbines based on the AK47 platform (well, except for a bullpup version; i think it is called the OC14 or something.).

Anyway, what is it about the design that keeps a manufacturer from deciding to produce one?

Insufficient market? Design prevents it from working properly with 'rimless' cartridges? Generalized sacrilege to Kalashnikov's original design?

There's the Bizon in 9mm. There are also some exotic russian calibers like 7.62x33 and others that the AK has been chambered in.

Why are there no pistol caliber AKs?

Just a wild guess, but maybe because 7.62x39 and 5.45 are technically designated as a pistol round by ATF, so there are all kinds of AK's chambered in pistol rounds already without sacrificing firepower and effective range with a subgun bullet.

9mm anyone???

x25......

Lichtenberg Research and Design Featuring the 2XTM used to offer parts and tutorials for a sub calibre...

EOD I think still offers a conversion.

Is the Bizon semi auto legal to import into the U.S.? I'd like to find a Bizon in 9X18mm to match my pistol. I've read about them but never seen any for sale.

I would have guessed it takes a beefy cartridge with a strong enough powder load to move that hefty piston but apparently I was wrong now that I have seen some of the conversion that were shown here.

I would be very interested in purchasing a (semi) bizon factory SBR, threaded barrel 1/2"-28 tpi.

Yes sir indeed.

Even with a silencer though, the action still sounds "klacky", but I would very much like to add one to my collection.

May not be the best choice, but sign me up for the 9X18mm in semi auto. That 64 round magazine / fore arm would be nice. I wonder how hard it is to load that thing though. Not a good looking gun, but it kind of follows the AK theme, function over looks / style. 12" to 16" barrel and under folding stock would suit me just fine. Stupid government gun regulations!
