The beauty of the AK is that you do not HAVE to blow 25-30 bucks a pop for good mags. The 9.99 Euro surplus mags (Bulgarian) work fine, last forever and you will never kill them.
Want a rifle with expensive finicky mags...go get an AR or FAL...the AK is GTG with cheapo steel Com Bloc mags! LOL

You can get these cheap Tapco Polymer mags only $5.90 for a mag.
2-MGTINMAG630BBULK - Tapco AK-47 Magazine 7.62x39 30 Round Black Rugged Black Exterior Lifetime Warranty
I ordered 4 of them and ill have to say they fit snug but once you get them working into your receiver they'll work like a dream.

They don't have them as far as I can tell.
Here ya go. K-var has two different models for sale. One all original and one with a US made follower and floorplate for compliance reasons. I have both and they work the same.

I'll echo just about everything that has been said.
For minimal range use, or bench shooting etc., even something from Tapco will function. Beyond that I'll avoid them like the plague.
The top of the heap for me would be a Bulgarian waffle magazine (not to be confused with a number of cheap Bulgarian polymer magazines). However they are very pricey. You used to be able to get them for $25 or so. Not so much any more.
US Palm makes a pretty good magazine, but as mentioned, the first generation have had problems, and the second generation hasn't shown to be perfect. For around the same price as a Bulgarian waffle, there is little reason to buy one. I'd rock them for range and class use if I got them cheap.
The problem with 7.62 magazines is that there are TONs of counterfeit models out there. Many of the military surplus steel magazines...aren't.
For casual use though, most will do. If you're running a hard serious class, or carrying for duty or defensive use, I'd invest in some quality magazines. As mentioned previously, the best budget option is to find well built military grade metal surplus magazines.
