Exclamation Question about my ROMY WASR 10/63 Underfolder

I am picking up a 1970 WASR 10/63 Underfolder from my local Cabela's. It looks to be in excellent shape. After tax, $536.86 ($499.00 before tax).

I would like to get a chrome bolt on it like i've seen floating around on various board posting and on some sales off of Classic arms, where they got some ROMY underfolders with what looks like a chrome bolt...

Came with:

Leather Milsurp Shoulder Harness
3 Steel mags
1 Tapco Mag
Oil Bottle
Cleaning Rod
Bayonet
Bayonet Belt loop
Ammo Pouch (east german i think..)
Original Butt Stock Cleaning Kit Tools

I had originally another one on layway, but looked at it once more and compared it to another one they had on the shelf, and found that the one i was going to get was in far worse shape than the other one I found out on the shelf that I hadn't seen before out on their shelf. They allowed me to do a swap. looked at new gun's parts.. found it didnt have a sling, so they allowed to swap the sling with the new gun. The new gun also had one of 3 metal mags all rusted to hell that they allowed me to swap from my box I had on layaway.

All-in-All.. great service from the folks at Owatonna, MN Cabela's

I will be buying a Reverse Donkey dong from Legionarms website.

I Also got a Bakelite Pistol Grip, which I will finish the Upper and Lower Handguard donkey dong to match the bakelite.

..plus a bakelite pistol grip. I also am planning on picking up 1-2 Bakelite Mags to complete the perfect look

I am also in the following weeks looking to place a red dot on it, possibly an eotech+scout scope mount. A friend who has a *cough cough* AR just (wasted) close to 1000 on a chinsey ACOG scope and another 800 or so on a ENTIRELY chrome upper assembly... Chrome Bolt assembly and Chrome-lined barrell so hes looking to get rid of his EOTECH 512 thats less than one year old.. saying he'll sell it to me for $200, when he bought it for $450 or so. Im more interested in burris fastfire ii though.

I just dont understand the allure to AR's he bought his ar Brand NEW from DPMS directly and spend about roughly $1100 factory new.. and has dumped >$3000 into the gun.

so lets see...

Gun: $536.86
Bakelite Pistol Grip: $19.99 (incl. s/h)
Reverse donkey dong : $51.00 (incl. s/h)
Scout scope mount: $72.50 (s/h=?)
Eotech holographic red dot: $200
Or
Burris fastfire ii for $177.00
Grand total: $880.35 (considered with eotech)
$857.35 (considered with Burris reflex)

Which is all I want to do with this gun. Much more affordable than an AR anyday hands down, yet he gives me grief daily for buying an AK.

On a final note, anybody know where or how to obtain a Chrome bolt ? or how to get it looking like the OP photo shot? I'm drooling over this (gun) porn more than I am real porn.. lol.. I want my Bolt to be nice and shiny. Chromium anybody?

What maybe you were looking at is a bolt that someone polished, you can do that yourself. Ask far as price goes on a wasr10 you might want to check with some local gun dealers first I bought my wasr a couple months ago for $399.00 brandnew. Good luck and enjoy.

I already looked into that. Not many other places had better offers. My local gunshop (Alhmann's had only a few, none of which i liked and were way over-priced.) Mill's fleet Farm had a few,but they wren't much to write home about either. In the end, I found the best value for my money at Cabela's.

As to the bolt's that probable, but how do you explain Classic arm's stock photo showing what looks to be a chrome bolt?

I am of the impression with AK's "some are and some are not". I think it depends who was building them and if they wanted to (or could) take the extra step to blue the bolt carrier that day.

it might be as simple as they didn't have bluing supplies and wanted to continue production.

if you get a blue one and you want a shiny one, you can polish it. it isn't that difficult.

Every bolt I have seen that was like that was sanded and buffed. I have not seen any after market chromed kits.

Get some 400 grit and a power sander and go to work.

But wouldn't stripping it cause me to be worrying about the bolt rusting over-time?

I dont know if that is a good idea? Comments?

I'm sure as long as you do your part it will be fine. Besides. It's an AK. A little rust won't hurt.

Do most Cabela's stock the WASR AKs? I had a look on their website but they don't list it.
