If it's original, that's a grenade launcher, not a suppressor.

Tapco makes an Yugo-specific SKS muzzle brake for about $10 (assuming this is a Yugo SKS and not a garage-kludge.)

If it's the Yugo, then you'll probably want to have a gunsmith get it off. And get a set price from the gunsmith first.

It *might* be possible to get it off yourself by driving out the pin, then using a lot of Liquid Wrench (soak overnight).
Then *carefully* clamp the receiver in a vise (wooden blocks so you don't chew it up) and use the biggest pipe wrench you can find.

Seriously -- they can be that hard to get off that you risk tweaking the barrel. Better to just clean up the rust.

They didn't just screw those on, they're heat-fitted (heated and then screwed on, and then pinned).

Pics would be helpful.

It might not even be legal to remove it unless you want to do the 922r parts dance.

Between it being (A) a serious pain to remove and (B) possibly illegal to do so, I'd leave it.

It's not a grenade launcher...It's also not a Yugo, it's Russian...

Sorry I didn't include enough info.

A picture of it can be seen in this thread here:
Brand new TURD...RUSTY SKS

I just didn't want to pollute the board with too many of the same pic.

Top one is a slip on for the non-yugo SKS.

Ah. You'll need a new sight pin. If it's even pinned.

Squirt Liquid Wrench all over everything and let it sit overnight.

Then there might be a pin that goes through those slots and through the sight base - knock out the pin
And then it just rotates a quarter turn and slide off.

Assuming that bastard that butchered the gun didn't JB weld it on . . . or worse: actually weld it on.

I've never used those things -- my SKS tends to rattle em loose . . . so lord knows what Bubba did to get it to stay on.

Take it off. Then be environmentally conscious and drop it in the recycling bin. (No, don't put a new one on -- they're rubbish.)

Thanks Blargh! There is a pin that goes through the sight base, but I can't tell how it would possibly be holding that piece on, in which case, I don't know HOW it is being held on (short of JB or actual weld...we'll see).

The pin is just to keep it from sliding off.

It locks around the sight tower -- slides on, then rotates a quarter turn. If it looks like this:

Or maybe just slides on.

It really doesn't look like there is any possibility of any turning 1/4 degree or any such thing. the break is right up against the sight, and there isn't any extra fastening/clipping visible.

Then just drive out the pin, just a lot of Liquid Wrench and a big pair of pliers -- you should be able to wiggle it off.
