Covert AK Case/Transport Bag
Hi,
I am interested in a subtle carrying case for my WASR. I don't like the idea of an obvious "tacticool" bag that gets seen by everyone on my street when I walk to my vehicle (I live in the city). I have seen an expensive bag sold online for this purpose ($175) but I think there is a cheaper solution, I just don't know what. Can anyone make a suggestion? I was thinking something along the lines of skateboard or other sports bag. Thanks, |

How about a golf bag
leave a 9 iron sticking out and you're set.

This is a serious topic on some forums. I have considered this issue myself after experiencing Katrina. How do you have a rifle handy and still not obvious? How do you transport in a non-permissive environment (hotel lobby, on the street)? Even the so-called "covert" bags don't look all that covert to me, and they are expensive.
A couple of alternatives that keep popping up are folding camp chair bags, tennis racket bags, and musical instrument cases, if you have a folder. I have been considering baseball bat bags. All of these will work, but does it seem out of place to have your tennis "racket" or your baseball "gear" in your car when evacuating or re-entering a zone through a check point, or going up to your room? These things must be considered. You do not want the container to draw attention to itself by looking out of place, and some may actually represent something more valuable to a thief like tool boxes. Personally, I am leaning towards the bat bag but one that is not a tacticool color nor a bright garish color (subdued blue and gray maybe) and has a brand logo totally unrelated to firearms on it. Most of these will fit an AK with a folding stock. They can be had for anywhere from about $20 to $50 for a fancy one. They have various zippered compartment arrangements. It will ride behind the seat in my truck within easy reach with a 20 round mag in the rifle. You can also use it for a clothing bag. All of mine are folders for this very reason. If you have a non-folder it gets a bit more complicated. An alternative I have been meaning to research is the simple barrel bag. It would need to have a hard bottom or sides to prevent printing its contents. It might be possible to create some internal padding to help that. CX |

Sports bags, duffel bags, laundry bags, travel bags, instrument cases or carry it out in the dark....folders re easier to 'hide'.

The local gun show up here there is a person that sells soft sided guitar cases for an electric guitar just for that purpose you might want to check that out.
Something like this: Buy Gator GBE-Extreme-1 Guitar Gig Bag | Gigbags for Solid Body Guitars | Musician's Friend

I just read an article that touched on just this topic. Basically said sports equipment bags are the best discreet way to carry a folding or collapsable stock rifle.
