I have a boatload of the Tapcos and have not had one malf with them in my Rommys that I would attribute to the mags.
That includes two range days with the whole shop going and hundreds of rounds down range, Rommys so hot they were smokin. That's just MY experience, others may have had different, but I'm OK with the Tapcos, I have alot of steel ones too though. Just my 2 cents.

or shoot some moly resin on a mil surp steel mag. With mi surp mags being so inexpensive and so nice, i dont think i would ever want a commercial one. Well not when they cost as much or more. If they were free or $2, ok maybe. When you can get nice steel mil surp for $9. You need not look any further. Get a mil surp, and if you want OD green, desert tan etc, then paint it.

I agree. Tapco and Promag will (usually) feed just fine, but they aren't nearly as durable as good ol' comblock steel. If you really want a plastic/polymer mag, go with the Bulgarian waffles or a Russian slabside. They're considerably more expensive, though. i wouldn't pay more than $10 per mag for a generic combloc steelie, though. But if you happen to find one with a stamped fleur-de-lis on it for a decent price, JUMP ON IT! and I'll buy it off ya!

I've seen plenty of problems in the tapco mags that would make me hesitant to use one again. In the older days of tapco they used to use outdated springs for the mags which would cause the follower to tip and cause a misfeed at least twice while shooting a magazine. When the new Tapco magazines came out intrafuse? I believe, they started using new springs, thus eliminating most of the problems. I had four tapco mags, including two new style ones. The older style without the waffeling were absolutely useless with horrible followers, weak spring, etc.. They would always misfeed due to spring tension and after about 500 rounds wouldn't even hold the ammo in the magazine when you turned it upside down. The new ones aren't so bad but I did have a malfunction with them. These malfunctions were completely limited to the polymer tapco magazine I was using. When I would switch to steel mags, no jams/misfeeds. I had mulitiple AK's out there, so I know it wasn't limited to the rifle, went from tapco to steel magazine and the problem is gone. I hear good things about Bulgy polymer waffel mags, and the polish polymer mags, but aside from that I would stick to good ol steel mags. This is all my opinion, and I do like polymer magazines but not if they are going to misfeed and be of questionable reliability. |
