Because when the law was written, that's the only caliber of Kalashnikov that was available in the USA.

dont care about the matching numbers kits and all that.. like the retro look.. here is a yugo with a polish grip and a russian mag.. also have a romanian bayo, and a chinese drop case... yeah its a mut..

what are you talking about? What exactly are you referring to when you say KABOOM and loosing fingers?

Loose fingers drop guns and other held items.

To lose fingers while holding a magazine as an impromptu VFG is easy to explain.

When an AK or AR has a KABOOM, the KABOOM invariably blows out through the magazine.

If you're holding the magazine at that time with a good firing grip, at a minimum, you're gonna get zingfingered (whack yourself in the palm/fingers with a fish whacker as hard as you can to find out what 'zingfingered' means) and at worst, you're gonna lose fingers.
