you did a really good job, looks great.

I refinished my AK in black flat Moly Resin and it turned out superb. But I've always hated the red color most AK furniture was finished in. I'd like to redo it in a more natural shade like your oak.

Too glossy for my taste, do they make the stain in a less glossy finish, maybe a Satin?

Yes you can get semi-gloss or satin. The stain he used is a polyurethane/stain blend that finishes high gloss. You can just get a normal stain and then finish it with a semi-gloss poly. Also I've always been a fan of oil finish for guns. Takes a bit longer and a lot more effort (rub on, let dry, repeat....) but the result is well worth it. That or Shellac (again rubbed, not brushed.) And if it's too high gloss, you can always buff with #00 and #0000 steel wool for a nice semi-gloss.

I just did my first coat waiting for it to dry to sand again and apply second coat. This guide helped a lot, I have never done any wood staining before and I gotta say its worlds easier than I expected.

I'll be putting pics tomorrow morning.

Why haven't we stickied this?
